Default Do You Have A *Personalised* Game?

This may well belong in the Modding Forum, but I would like to know if there are some small time modders out there.

Not sure how many people do this, but I thought that Rome:TW was relatively easy to mod (mainly stats and number changing, but moving on skinning and new units later). I'm not a big modder or scripter by the way. Just another random guy who read a few tutorials.

I've made 2 new units (sort of 3 really), and skinned about 10. Mostly little edits, blood on some swords, nicer armour, etc... Also changed some stats, and made the campaign melee units only, sounds boring, but the battles on 'Huge' settings are visually stunning, and you don't have to worry about tactics, just sit back and watch the glorious battle. (back to normal now though).

Anyway, has anyone else done some small mods for their own game, not releasing them, just for you and your friends maybe? If so... lets hear them.
    Cheers...

This does belong in the mods forum, but no. I'm not much of a self mod person. I prefer to sit back and reap the rewards of the hard work made by others.

Yeh i have a personalised game most people do in some way or another, why don't you put up a couple of screen shot's of your skins, maybe someone will hire you to work on a mod, it's a good way to learn and you'll get to know a few people.

Oh and if no one has already, Welcome to the forum, please take a quick glance at the rules and have fun

Hmmm, well, I think I could list off about 10 different mods I have borrowed from, and a lot of the individual releases in the downloads sections. I like to download just about every mod I can find and incorporate what I like about each into it. The only problem is I have reached the unit limit and cant add any more models without taking another one out. I would love to release my own "personal" mod, but tracking down all of the people I have taken things from and asking permission for would be a nightmare.

The "Lost Units" for the Britons. Chosen archers, Barbarian Archers, Skirmishers, barbarian cavalry, woad Fanatics, slingers, etc; All are units with textures in the game files that aren't actually in the game.

I also despise chariots with a passion, I consider them completely useless in anything at or above hard battle difficulty. So I changed the Briton general from chariots to mounted druids.

I gave it to a friend of mine, the exact same files somehow keep on saying "Unlocalized placement text" instead of "woad fanatics" etc. But he still likes it.

Zuwxiv, Mounted Druids, that sounds really nice.

Anyway, heres the two 'new' units:
    Early Legionary Cavalry:
    (Inbetween Legionary, and Roman Cavalry)

    Praetorian Archers:
(The elite archers of the Roman army)-(Very proud of the unit pic for this one, came out really well I thought:original

The unit next the the General are the 'Secret Police'. Basically, its just a small unit of Cohort Captains which I use to defend towns.
(Units are on 'Huge' scale settings)

It sounds like he needs to rename the dictionary entries (in EDU) at his end. Unless there are no unit descriptions for this unit, in which case you simply have to add them into export_units @ \data\text with the correct dictionary references.

Those are very nice, especially the 'Praetorian Archers'. Make sure you download SigniferOne's animation pack to get the most out of units such as archers (especially mounted archers), various infantry types etc. Here's a link

I have a many personal mods. I like to use a great mod like RTR, and alter it to suit my tastes. I like to call my current project RTR: Tyrannoi. It begins in 480 BC, I have converted Parthia into the Achaemenids, and The Seleucids into Massila (no new units for either yet).

The focus of the mod is the Greek states of Syrakousai (Greek Cities), Massilia (Seleucids), Sparta (Scipii), Athenai (Ptolemaioi, Persia owns Egypt), and probably the Bosphoran kingdom (Pontus). The Etruscans (Armenians) and Samnites (Bruttii) will also be included.

I like to get the factions & Campaign map (with 5 provinces in Sicily) setup, before I move onto renaming and adding new units.

The Baktrians will probably be reincarnated as an Indian Kingdom.

I have a personalized game with mostly alot of homemade units. I play a modded version of XGM, with sarissas added back in and remade some unit stats. For example, I made the Royal Guard more like their historical brethren. They are now truly elite, in smaller numbers. About as good as Sacred Band, but with Sarissas.

Currently, I'm playing BI, however. I got some new units added in for the Sassanids and Saxons (My two favourite factions).

    I've given the Sassanids:

Takabara Spearmen - Slightly tougher spearmen than the levies. Still not very good, though, and quite frankly I like the levies better because they are faster and cheaper.

Levy Scimitars (Yet to find a good name for them) - Cheap, sword unit. 160 men. No armour, but fast. Better at attacking infantry than Levy Spearmen at least.

    For the Saxons, i've given:

Swordsax - A medium infantry unit with a good attack, but poor defence. For a germanic tribe where swordpractice was an everyday occurance, I thought the saxons had surprisingly few swordsman units. So, I added this fellah. Tier 2 tech tree, and trainable at the same level of barracks as Saxon Keels. Not very good at defence, due to no spears and lack of shield wall, but better on offense than the spear units.

Woodsmen - A skirmisher unit with javelins and a shortsword. Sort of like a heavy skirmisher. Armoured with chainmail and a small shield. Is fast, and his sword attack isn't all that bad. A good hit and run unit.

I've also altered the Saxon Hearth Troops to give them 2+ to attack and 3+ in defence, and also bumping them up to Tier 5 instead of 4 so that they are now very hard to get ahold off, but worth the wait.

I've also given all troops +6 morale.

Yeah, changes such as this are mandatory tbh, because the length of battles in vanilla RTW just don't cut it.
