I am experimenting with the mangonel or barrelthrower for Isengard, possibly also for the Corsairs of Umbar, and I think I will keep them...what do you think ? They add some nice effects to the battles...

Mangonel is the most powerfull siege weapon in Stainless Steel... it kills way more then the best cannon is able too ( exept if the enemies cannon kills the mangonel)!
...and as there are no cannons in ME it would be the strongest unit...
Another question is that lore question... I dunno if they had burning liquids over there... I am a lore-rapist not a lore-lover
I would see that as overpowered... If I would be able to build them I would change my whole tactics into a turtle army with 4 mangonels...
It's basically a question of stats, accuracy and cost. They seem quite powerful as they are now with the original stats, but it can be reduced, and they can be made very rare. We have ents, we have the balrog, we have Sauron, I don't think balance might be harmed by a sort of catapult
They had the gunpowder and they used the oil to burn their dead.
Tolkien also wrote something along the lines of that "Goblins liked bangs and explosions and may have invented a lot of machines that can kill a lot of people at the same time" in The Hobbit.

I think its great
ahh, I am not so sure about mangonels from a game mechanics perspective. In my experience in SS, the AI knew how to use them OK but definitely did not know how to react to them well enough. Often they'd just be stationary and take the massive casualty hits they inflict.
I have reduced them to one machine per unit, made them expensive... I will test them more later. Most probably, if I keep them, I'll use them also for the Dwarves![]()
