So, does anyone do this? I, for instance, renamed Isengard "Barad Aglareb", Great Tower, after capturing it as HE. (Orthanc sounded boring)
Post your cities you have renamed!

I sometimes do that with the Dwarves, If a general captures an important settlement I rename that *Insert generic Dwarf name*'s Halls.

I tend to do this with Gondor when I capture settlements from Harad. Barad Harn becomes Has Annun, Has Yayb becomes Gobel Milrond. Just makes it that bit more immersive.
Playing has the High Elves I changed Carn Dum to Angainor, Angainor is the chain that Aule made to bind Melkor twice in the Silmarillion
also playing as Gondor I change Isengard to Angrenost its original Numenorean name
Does renaming settlements have an impact on the scripts? For example, if I rename Minas Tirith, will Beacons of Gondor work properly?
Vae Victis!
It has no impact AFAIK.
playing as dwarves,I renamed several orc settlements in Misty mountains and Wormcove to something which sounds enough dwarvish for me or I just used some Khuzdul words which are known, like Azunalzibar, Khaz-Durin,Aglab or Iglishmek
Renaming towns only effects the name displayed on screen, so will have no impact at on any scripts. The scripts use the settlement's core name, not the one displayed in game. So change it to whatever you like, with no worries.

Once I got bored and renamed all settlements in my empire (about 50) to american cities![]()
...how do you rename the settlements?
ive tried to, but i end up not doing so for 2 reasons:
i suck at making LOTRish names
the original name sounds better
i did however, one game, rename Minas Morgul to Minas Denethor. then changed it back to minas morgul because i didnt like it
I do this as Gondor sometimes.
Isengard becomes Angrenost, and once I take Minas Morgul, I rename Minas Tirith back to Minas Anor. Try and name various other settlements in Harad, mostly random sindarin/westron/adunaic-sounding words, nothing scholarly.
I once was about to lose a town the orcs of Gundabad, so I quickly renamed it to "Orcs are retarded" as revenge![]()
