    Default The Greeks

It seems to happen in every campaign I make. The Greeks get nocked out first. I know that they are one of the most powerfull factions, but their location is the worst. They are surrounded by Macedon (which they will imediatly declare war on) Brutii, Selucids, Thracians, and Pontis. And they all want Greece. It seems that with this many enemies surrounding the greeks they can never get of to a good start, and end up being crushed by the surrounding forces.

Is there any balances that would give the greeks a better chance at making past the first 50 years?

Often in my campaigns, the Seleucids get knocked out first, it seems they always get taken over because they are next to the ptolemies, and they are a relatively weak faction at the beginning. Unless of course, i play as the Brutii, then the Greeks are knocked out before they know what hit them. I think its a combination of weak positioning and weak troop types to start with.

well try playing on easy if it's too hard, because i know for a fact that on modorate or hard you'll get attacked by Macedon, and Roman Brutii within 3-4 turns.

If you want a more...balanced Greek faction, then use the Xtended Greek mod. I don't know the specifics about it, but I think it gives the Greek cities the boost that they need to be able to survive the begining.

I usually do good as the Greeks in vanilla, on H/H. You just have to make the right moves and decisions, and you're good. Most of the time, I declare was on Macedon as fast as possible so I have a better advantage with the first stirke.

Yes, it is absolutely necessary to crush Macedon first. They are your natural enemies, they never will live in peace with you. After this, you should go for the Brutii. They will again and again invade your shores, until you defeat them on their own soil. I think there is no way to avoid those two battles.

For Brutii there is, you have to stop them from having navies (= blockade their ports) and they have only their starting cities they won't be a big problem

Ok, this will do of course. Maybe I am just too used to finish off problems once and forever if they emerge...

    @Hitman:

What version are you using? Mods, Patches?

Maybe you are using a mod blocking cheats?

I use Xtended Greek Mod, and it is still rediculous how hard it become for the Greeks. Which is too bad becuase if your not them, then you never get a chance to fight them.

you could always mess around with the files and give extra units in or better cities, but make a back up file though, i tried it on the romans, i was playing carthage at the time but the romans had conquered about as much as i had on VH/VH each cause i double their starting troops and made their cities better, i even got attacked a carthage

If I remember correct, there are some cheat codes to create military units in cities, right?

So is this cheat only applicable on your own faction, or would it also be possible to beef up other factions by giving them some extra hoplites or stuff?

Of course, then they also would need additional money to pay their army...

Take Corinith as fast as possible. The Spartan royal guard is essential for your first major victories.

I think the Greek's even in vanilla ahve an excellent starting position. Athens Sparta and Corinith pile in the money. Armoured hoplites, have low building requirements, but can match up to legionaires. They may have a small unit roster. But used correctly, they can defeat anything.

There are NOT cheat codes for making units! It is only through the powers of 0 turn recruitment and adding cities in descr_strat that fast recruitment/awsome starting units can be obtained.

Sorry, but this is wrong. There is a console cheat:

    create_unit CITY "UNIT NAME" x y y y (with X giving the number and y values)

    For example

    create_unit Athens "greek hoplite elite" 5 8 8 8

giving you 5 units of Greek Armored Hoplites stationed in Athens, with gold values + experience.

However, I don´t know if it can also be done with other factions than your own.

The Greeks being weak? I thought they were kind of overpowered. As the greeks on H/H ive taken over half the world extremely easily so i don't know whats going on with the npcs.
