Default RTW Battle Engine: Any insights?

First I want to see if I can even post in this forum (haven't been able to for the past 4 weeks), before I waste time composing a question. If this posts, I will edit my question in....

...Yay! It works! O.K., the question...

I want to figure out how to measure the effectiveness of one unit type against another, as well as the quantitative effect that the different gameplay difficulties have on the effectiveness of the unit. I see the unit stats in the stat sheets; things like: missile attack, melee attack; charge bonus; total defense; armor; etc. What I'd like to know is, has anyone figured out what the underlying game equations are? For instance, If you know that identical infantry units with 160 soldiers each will, in the long run average out to evenly killing each other off, what would happen if you bumped one unit's attack from 12 to 13 and left everything else the same?

Is there information out there? Because I don't want to re-invent the wheel...

    Thank you.

Usually I find that plus one or two attack does little to change the outcome of a skirmish. Defence seems to be more of an effective stat than attack. Just my thoughts though.

And with such a little different in stats (eg. 1 more attack) the outcome can differ each time. If you watch a one on one skirmish close up, each man won't kill the same number of people as another engagement of the same two units. (love watching melee on melee confrontations )

In the long run...maybe. It depends on the units staying power, moral and defense, more than anything else. You could have a unit with 99 attack, but it will rout as soon as it gets hit because there is no staying power.
