I play only play on VH and i have seen them challange the WRE. As the goths i saw the saxons become the major power of the west, destorying the WRE and taking all their provinces.
saxons are as much active as any other AI faction.

The Saxons are always active for me, though more often then not I'm playing them because it's fun to invade an island.
It is always different when I play, but then I only play as the ERE when not Saxons. Go Saxons!![]()
Have you ever played as Saxons with Flagellum Dei(sp?) mod. When I saw that only cavalry unit they have is saxon sea reiders, I was kinda afraid to play whith them, because all neighbors have hevy cav. Aren't the Saxons just going to be washed away by enemy cav?

I havent tried that mod as saxons but in BI vanilla the hearth troops are pretty formidableOriginally Posted by milns
Saxons have a nice unit roster and they almost always invade Britain. Their hunters are good against steppe horse archers, and their infantry can beata down anything else. Use warlords as the saxon heavy cavalry. I rarely make many Sea raiders. Chosen Axemen and Saxon Hearth are great infantry as well. Chosen Axemen look like Saxon Huscarles to me.
Blut und Boden
I think they have the best infantry.
In my games the saxons usually expand a little at the cost of the WRE and a little of the Franks (sometimes something totally different though). When the Celts emerge from England (= when Romano British are dead) they get pushed back to their starting cities. From this point 2 things seem to happen to them quite often:
1. They get dragged into a long expensive war with the celts and die
2. They have a ceasefire with the celts and expand a towards Lombardi + Burgundii
Or something totally different, but those 2 things are what happens in most of my games.
In Flagellum Dei generals bodygards arn't cav, they are infantry man with swords!

So they do expand but when i get there their conquered cities get conquered again lol.
Yeah, that is, unless you are WRE or Franks, then you are already there. And they CAN expand quite a lot if the Celts stay on their damned islandOriginally Posted by Hitman Blood Money

when i played as allimari the saxons expanded quite a bit in the first few years before i pushed them back, they had quite a bit of northern gual whilst i pushed into southern gual and spain, and held chokepoints from the alps into my provinces
