Battle

Just started a campaign as the Goths in BI. A few turns in the Vandals come in as a horde against my Capital. Im pretty screwed being they attack me with around 4800 guys and I have 500ish. Im really terrible at the game to be quite honest so being able to do anything is a plus for me. At one point i had almost their entire army fleeing but i didnt have enough units to be able to keep on them so they keep reorganzing. I was losing men quick, i was winning but i couldnt hold out. So i did the only thing i could, a death charge at there general in hopes that if i win that, and can get their army fleeing again, they wouldnt reorganize. However by the time i had killed him i had 4 guys left and there entire army was in my city :-/. But im pretty proud of myself being that again.... I suck.

I'm being kinda jealous of your kill ratio...

You did a good job defending vs. that horde. The problem with hordes is: They come early in game and in big numbers. This is what makes them hard to beat...

your doin better at it then some people i know, he doesnt even know how to play, so when i asked him for a game and i said he can be romans and i will be carthage and not take eles he still refused

btw nice kill ratios, their better then the one i had a gainst a horde as ere.

they may of taken ur city but that isnt really a horde any more even if the sack it

I have played as the Goths many times and each time I try to fight off the Hordes. I usually only beat off one horde faction before the other one attacks me and forces me to Horde myself. Most cases I beat teh Huns only to have the Vandals attack me before I can repair my walls and retrain my units.

Nice wins what unit's did you have? Spearman; sword infantry,cavalry and missile.

hmm... i dont think i understand the map in left bottom courner... you suppose to have 2 units, that run fro their lifes, but on map it seems like 10? (about 10 red arrows) ... am i missing something? i thought i can read the map, but... i dont get it... =/

Well those were all the ones isnide my city i think, maybe the minimap is trying to tell me who i needed to kill to take back the city or something? Like i said im still new so I dont know. And for units. I had 2 generals (cav of course) 2-3 other units of cav, 1 unit of peasants, 2 archers, and 1 unit of spearmen, the archers and spearmen were stationed at the gate originally. I had everything else in the middle section where you need to go to take the city. Once they owned my archers and spearmen and started marching towards me i realised i was gonna get surrounded and owned hardcore. So i figured the only thing i could do was charge at them. They really only ahd light infantry, and i had about 300cavalry. I then just targeted all of my forces at one unit at a time. The massive charge sent each one into a panic, and also caused others near it to panic as well. Basically i just used everything against one at a time to give more concentrated damage.

I wasnt outnumbered by nearly as much but still pulled it off using the same strategy. I won this time too. This was in Vanilla RTW but i figured i should just post it here instead of making another topic.

tou were using romans that time so it isnt a great deal about that one, ok maybe the mercs would have trouble but nothing else would, also in your gothic battle it was barbarain vs barbarian, not the overpowered romans

all i usuualy do is have my army focus on the hords first then i destroy the other factions that im after

ive actually made a herioc victory when with the same kind of battle. I was the burgundii and i was defending a city against the vandals. I had many horses and just shoveled all their peasents, using the small passages in the city... damn, good days indeed
