Oooh thats the one about the gay Spartans.

Why was the fight director saying that theres no historic record of how the Spartans fight?

I was only playing. The Spartans look a little homoerotic to me. They were practically naked and they weren't wearing any armour.

Sounds rather masculine to me. Being naked infront of another man isnt gay at all, its the other mans reaction that would make someone gay.

Naked penis sells better.

But it would be much cooler to see those Spartans in armour instead of being naked like they almost are.

Oh yeah. this is the one based off the comic version.

Thats what I'm talking about. It looks like a homoerotic version of Thermopylae to me.

I saw the video on the training regimine that they were putting the actors that play the spartans through and it sounds intense.

As for the movie, it might be interesting and exciting. As for historical accuracy? That just gets in the way of a good story so don't trouble yourself with ideas such as that.

Maybe he means happy? 'Gay' wasn't used as slang for a homosexual until some time in the last century.

Surely you must all know about the Spartans homosexual behaviour? I find it odd no one's mentioned it yet.... so if your not saying their gay then your running away from accuracy as well.

And besides this movie is based off frank millers comic book so dont excpect any accuracy at all. its more about a good story line based around loose interpretations of the story.

That being said i still don't like how the Persians are portrayed, even if it isnt supposed to be accurate it still sends the same western superiority message that the classics did

Might I point out to you the usage of the word, classics, it implies something.

Perhaps if there were persians around that lived in their homeland that were allowed to engage in free thought to make movies that woudl glorify the Persian Empire.

Tis a sad state of affairs but these movies will always have a western slant because they are made by westerners.

Persia will be portryaed like the Russians were in "The Day the Earth Stodd Still"- evil.
More so since we're fighting against Iraq, or whatever.

Tis a sad state indeed but even though i cannot change it right now, i can lament it. And its this idea of us glorious westerners defeating the evil decadent east which pervades constantly throughout the ages, its quite simply disgusting. You would have thought in the age of mass communication and subsequent enlightenment that we could at least have learned some empathy by now.

Considering the present wars in the east this film will only fan the fires of the western superiority complex. And all the ignoramus's in Britain will be ready to 'educate' me on Persian history...

Well to be fair rez, I think the story of Thermopylae should be seen from the Greeks(as the good guys). Ideally the defender should always be shown heroicly, especially those that fight so vailiantly as the Spartans. Though I agree the east is often misportrayed, I think its pretty much a must in the circumstance.
