Which combination of difficulty is the most realistic? When AI is not getting huge bonuses not in the battle or in the strategical map? I've heard its on H/M settings, is it true?

Interdum feror cupidine partium magnarum Europe vincendarum.
I think it is H/M and/or H/H. This keeps it more realistic, because with the VH the AI gets stupid bonuses and they can easily win some battles because of it. Playing on H/M usually gives the most balanced and realistic feeling to the game, but if you want a bit more of a challenge then H/H can be alright too.Originally Posted by milns
I would go with H/H so that you get the biggest challenge without things getting ridiculus and it seems as though some civilizations have some really good strategy while some don't but its always random which do.
I use H/M personally, and usually do well, but if your going for the most realistic difficulty settings, that would probably be H/H, and if you want an insanely challenging game, you could use VH/VH, which is on the borderline of being ridiculously hard, at least for me.

i always play on VH/VH as AI is so stupid he needs all help he can get to be a chalange... even with those bonuses he is still no mach to a human player. i do agree it is more realistic if we play H/M, but you must admit AI is too weak for that level.

I prefer H/M. I'm not the greatest of battle tacticians, but I prefer a challenge in logistics anyway.
I try a mix between H/M, H/H and VH/M (rarely). VH campaigns can get a bit over the top. Hard is the way to go, I think. Plus I like to autoresolve some smaller battles and we all know that's suicide on VH.
Agreed on the autoresolve. The only thing more stupid than the enemy AI is your AI during autoresolve. You CAN get stung on Hard setting; but you can EXPECT to get stung on VH. I am finishing up a H/H campaign right now. I *KNOW* that I am going to win; so am letting autoresolve do some of the battles that I would have personally attended to earlier in the game; and I don't think this would be plausible on x/VH.Originally Posted by Juus
It depends on what you want. I have played on N/N, N/H, H/H, VH/H, and tried some historical battles on VH. Of those, H/H has been the one that seemed most realistic to me, so far; but H/H has not been especially challenging. The problem with the VH/H is that the game starts with everyone ticked off at you and no one will negotiate with you in good faith. So if you like using the negotiation tools, this is not the setting for you. I will probably go with H/VH for the next game (despite the problem noted above); so that diplomacy works somewhat realistically, but the battles are harder. Or possibly do H/H, but get a harder faction to play.
Hope that helped.
