    Default Gondor cavalry shield fix




    Hi TATW players

    I always wondered, why Gondorian cavalrymen never seem to particulary care about their own lives, riding to battle with defensive gear inferior to that of their own infantry... Lack of shields was kind of annoying, so I decided to give this unit a shield on my own.

    Here's what to do:

    STEP 1 Unpack the attached file to mods/Third_Age_3/data/unit_models/_units/en_lmail_hmail directory. Overwrite all files.


    STEP 2 Open export_descr_unit.txt file in mods/Third_Age_3/data folder. Find following passage:

    That red number is value of shield defense bonus. I recommend changing it to no more than 4, as if not to make this unit stronger than Dol Amroth Knights It might be a good idea to lower the def skill (green number) to 2 to simulate the heaviness of the shield and so as not to overpower the unit.

    Great work mate +rep . I was last modding the gondor units and I wondered why those guys have no shield. Good fix

    This is very appreciated and I have wanted in a long time that they should have shields just seemed plain weird to me that it wasn’t an option to begin with

    Would it be difficult for you to remove the pennants from the cavalry lances and give them to the bodyguards ?

    Well I tried to do so by myself, but with no success I tried to follow this tutorial ... my new gondor cavalry model was to be equiped with the actual bodyguard attachements, I was able to get it working ingame... ehm, not working, but not causing a ctd I had the rider with correct attachements and textures, but with no animations... in BFME modding this happend when the model was not properly exported with it's skeleton if I remember it well.

    Very well made, but i prefer Gondorian cavalry without shields, so i don`t download it. Good job anyway!

    Which is why the link doesn't work and he is asking for one...

    Pretty silly how everyone complains about reviving threads (even for a good reason such as this), if you don't like it don't read it. No need to post spam saying how old the thread is, which is irrelevant since the work it contained is still relevant to some.

    Whoa, I log back after 2 year break and the very same day someone bumps my ancient mod thread!

    Anyway, I am no longer in possession in this mod - that was stored on a hard drive that got burned. Sorry. But you should be able to do that with some unit editing, for which tutorials you can find in adequate section of TWC. It's really easy and you should be able to do that after max. 1 hour of work
