I am currently taking a class dicussing American history and at times politics/policy
One topic this one white guy who I'm good friends with brought up the topic of standup comedy, but just comedy in general. He was complaning about how protections for minorities have gone so far that the first derogatory thing anyone says, in perticular a white guy would be belittled by society and the school in an instant. He was mad about the fact that its ok for say Black or Hispanic comedians to make fun of white people left and right when everyone thinks its funny, but once again the minute a white guy makes a black joke, the whole world is against him.
In my personal opinion I can understand that the minorities (which I am a part of) can be upset when they've been putting up with a lot of racism and descrimination out in public and in the workforce hear only worse things on TV and Radio, but then again I also understand my friend's position. He always says "Well I thought you guys wanted to be equal! Stop being a hypocrite!"
Thoughts?
