    Default brighten things up

This is going to sound very noobish, but I can't make my videos (like game trailers, preview videos) brighter. I never had a problem with this with my old ATI card, but I tried everything with the nividia card, and I can't make the videos brighter without making my desktop brighter.

I tried brightening the overlay-only, but that doesn't do anything. My desktop looks bright as it is, and yet my videos are almost pitch-black.
I find the nvidia card controls, mediocre at best, the card is fast but the card control interface is in a dire need of updating.

    anyone?

I'm glad you mentionned this because I thought I was paranoid. I replaced my XT800 128 with a 7800GTX 256 and I see much more of the dark-green areas during shots in dark environment in movies or night shots. Although I updated with the latest drivers I think that catalyst drivers were better for video.

aaaarugghgh! Looks like me and Garb are the only ones who own Nvidia cards here?

I'm gonna go to a different forum and ask around some high tech geeks and see what they say....

Try having a video playing in media player as you adjust the sliders on overlay.. it works fine for me

Well I got my new 7900GT and I don't see any problems with videos, it looks the same as before with my X1600Pro. I'm using winamp btw, I accidentally deleted Windows Media Player on my computer and never got the time to reinstall it back.

Well, not talking about adjusting the brightness on my monitor. It's like, my desktop is nice and bright (almost too bright), but all the videos I play is just too dark.
There is the control interface of Nvidia, that allows me to adjust the brightness of my desktop and other 3D stuff controls, but I can't get the videos to be brighter but have the desktop stay the same brightness.

    thnx for the replies anyway.

edit: Nevermind guys, I found it. Appearantly some of my nvidia controls were not working right. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver and now i got my layer controls back. Whew! I thought I was blind or something, but no, the driver was corrupted somehow.

By the way, your old card was a ATI right? I just switched too, and I found that even after using Driver Cleaner and Cab Cleaner, all of ATI's drivers were still not removed, and it is causing problems in games. This is what I did to fix it.

Do a search on files with letter "ati", and delete all the files beginning with the letter "ati" EXCEPT the ones under the "ServicePackFiles" or "Lastgood" directories. After I did that all the glitches I've been having with games seemed to have dissappeared.
