Difficult Level

What is the right choice of the difficult level??

Hard/Hard???

For battles, very hard. For the campaign, hard.

I use H/H, but for battles it should be better VH!

As far as I know, doing battles in VH severely unbalances the mod, meaning units like the lowly Sassanid Paighan end up with morale bonuses higher than even the most elite Roman legion, which is realistically impossible. So I would refrain from playing battles on VH.

Campaign wise, I play hard. VH apparently is bugged, so that instead of the enemy getting like 10,000 in money per round, YOU get it instead. If it weren't for that, I would also play VH on campaign. I find money is the only way the AI present a decent challenge - overwhelming numbers FTW!

I was not wrong thinking that the battles were unbalanched on VH.

I guess that would be me cause I play medium battles and hard campaign.

It's the same difficulty that I choose. Makes for an interesting game

But...Excuse me gentlemen! At this point I must know the truth! I play H/H, what is the difference in battle between Hard and Medium?
I read that a lot of people use VH/VH, so I thought that using H/H I was a kind of newbie, but now you are saing 'Medium' for battles?

Diocle, as far as I know, in VANILLA RTW, HARD/VERY HARD means just normally harder battles, given the limitations of Vanilla RTW.

But in mods like EB and IBSAI, HARD and VERY HARD severely unbalance game units, which were already designed to be 'balanced', ie some units like paighan or whatever, have lower morale, elite archers have medium morale and say tabari have high morale. That's the 'real' way it should be. Now, on hard/very hard, they get as many as 2x or 3x times the morale bonuses, so paighans end up as high morale, elite archers as elite morale, and tabari are just uber extremely impossible. BUT THIS IS ONLY FOR THE AI!

So you will still end up fighting say with a legion which has high morale, against measly paighans which because of bonuses have an even higher morale than you do. I checked all this before starting my campaign with JH, because a few years earlier I did the silly mistake of playing EB battles of VH, and well, it was nigh on impossible, not to mention unrealistic.

Thanks Knonfoda, if only I had known before!! I played 5 campaign with SAJ, the first as Julian a wonderful nightmare, then as Procopius not too hard, Valentinianus easy respect the first and Valens apart from the persians quite easy, then I started with Ephtalites but I gave up.
I'll try again using as you say M/H. Thank you!!!
