ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida woman was fired from her job after eating "unclean" meat and violating a reported company policy that pork and pork products are not permissible on company premises, according to Local 6 News.

Lina Morales was hired as an administrative assistant at Rising Star -- a Central Florida telecommunications company with strong Muslim ties, Local 6 News reported.

However, 10 months after being hired by Rising Star, religious differences led to her termination.

Morales, who is Catholic, was warned about eating pizza with meat the Muslim faith considered "unclean," Local 6 News reported. She was then fired for eating a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, according to the report.

"Are you telling me they fired you because you had something with ham on it?" Local 6 News reporter Mike Holfeld asked.

"Yes," Morales said.

Holfeld asked, "A pizza and a BLT sandwich?"

" Yes," Morales said.

Local 6 News obtained the termination letter that states she was fired for refusing to comply with company policy that pork and pork products are not permissible on company premises.

However, by the company's own admission to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, that policy is not written, Local 6 News reported.

"Did you ever sign to or agree to anything that said I will not eat pork?" Holfeld asked Morales.

"Never," Morales said. "When I got hired there, they said we don't care what religion you are."

Although I am a Muslim, I highly disagree with their actions toward the woman. You can not control everthing that everone does. Just because she ate pork, I mean come on, what kind of lame excuse is that. I am sickend by this that we could be so intolerant of such meaningless things as this.

That is not a company which belongs to either Jews or Muslims I hope. On a different point of view, come on. There are lots of other things one can eat.

However, legally, if it's not written in the company policy, then it's wrong to dismiss her and she have rights for compensation. However, if it is written that it is not allowed, then she broke the company rules. It doesn't matter if the rules is logic or not, well it's not different then some company policy that aloowed or disallowed people to wear jeans or long hair etc.

As long as the company rules didn't contradicting with the labour law, I see why not it be implemented.

Companies cannot discriminate against employees becaue of their religious beliefs. Its a company run by a majority of Muslims.

In the Netherlands we recently had an issue with a muslim school who didn't want to hire a teacher because she refused to wear a headscarf (she was still a muslim, btw).
She filed a complaint against the school because according to Dutch law the school isn't allowed to have such clothing policies.
The school had to pay a fine for descriminating.

But there are rules against flaming in the Terms of Service, so that isn't a good comparison.

They could have just said "unethical work practices" and everything wound have been fine, but noo. Some reasons people come up with for firing people. Its just stupid.

Depends on the state. I dont know about other states, but in Washington you can fire anybody for any damn reason you chose, or not have a reason at all. The boss can walk in and say your fired, now leave, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Chicken is good - but you'll tire soon of it. Cow / Sheep meat is exellent <- the best.. But some of the best meat dishes has pork in it.. and pork is besides Cow / sheep meat the best and most useable kind of meat.. and it taste like heaven...
