    Default Famous battles?

You probably have already seen that symbol that indicates that a famous battle happened where it is. Question is, what makes a battle famous? I didn't really searched all over the map to find more, but I've already seen 2, one in the Middle East regarding a battle between the Mongols and Rebels, and other in the Rome region that marks the place of a battle between me and the Papal States (it was a tough victory, for sure). But I'm almost sure that I have fought harder and bloodier battles myself, so what makes a battle famous? (I know that mine against the Papal States was the one that "destroyed" it, or should have).

I guess when they are heroic victories, it gives that. Can anybody confirm?

Heroic victories are what give you famous battles.

Not all Heroic victories though. They have to be big, with lots of troops on either side.

Not all famous battles are heroic victories, and not all heroic victories turn out to be famous battles. Yes, I agree that most heroic victories turn out to be famous battles because of the sheer magnitude of the victory. I think it would be quite famous if around 700 troops would demolish 2000 or 3000 troops.
What makes a battle famous as far as I've noticed is the sheer size of the battle in troop numbers, the extent of your victory and I want to say general's fame, but I've seen captains get some famous battles too.
Another factor to a famous battle is just how much (In percentage) of your armies faced off against how much of your foe's armies (In percentage, again). It's logical that a fight between half of your nation's army between half the army of another nation would be quite a deciding battle in a war, and in result quite famous - So once again, sheer numbers.

I must say that this is all what experience taught me, I did not look at the codes or script, it's just what I've noticed over the past 5-6 years. I would be delighted if someone could scour the codes for the variables.

I don't think the Heroicness of the victory is that important. Otherwise, AI vs. AI battles wouldn't be getting so many famous battle marks.

It mostly has to do with the size of the armies and the percentage of the total military force they make up.Another factor is the odds of the battle. If you have a smaller army of cruddy units fighting a large force of mediocre and professional units, you win and kill most of them, it will be a famous battle, and a heroic victory. Still, both sides would have to have large forces, say 1000 of your troops against 2500-3000 AI troops, and the outcome would have to be lopsided in your favor with AI few survivors. Killing AI generals, faction leaders, and family members is also an important factor. Like if you killed five AI generals and their faction leader, it would be a factor leading up to a famous battle.

But just like what Nazgul Killer said, this is all from my own gameplay experience over the past few years, I didn't scan through the code looking for variables.

I'd ask in the modding workshop. They know the code better than most people here.

Like Nazgul Killer, I have noticed that it is HUGE battles which give them out mostly, like one stack facing off against all 12 Mongol stacks and winning.

However, if you have say 1 pike unit defending a village against a full stack (like in my Teutonic campaign), then you get one too.
