When on earth does Marius get around to reforming my junky Roman military? It's 240BC, and I've had an Imperial Palace in Rome for 10 years. Is there something else I need to do here?? VH/H is difficult enough without trying to do it with Hastati.

Ermmm, should't marian reforms be around 108 historically?

TE is 1.5. Therefore, it should take place as soon as you get an imperial palace in Italy.

It sometimes takes a few years after you've built an imperial palace for it to happen but it will, so don't worry.

You should be happy, in other mods it occur at 107 BC.

Historically, it happened around 107BC. And with a good selection of Hastati, Princepes and Triarri, you can dominate just about anyone before the tech trees start filling out.

I'm at 160BC now and I've had the Imperial Palace for aroud 70 years. I've still not got the Marius Reforms and I've nearly conquered the entire world.

I have also encountered this, I built an Imperial palace in Rome and waited for years and years, and the moment that I built an Imperial Palace in Patavium, the Marius Reforms happened.
It has happened twice that I have built in Imperial Palace in Rome and no reforms. So this lets me think that the reforms can only happen when you build in Imperial Palace in an Italian city other than Rome.
Yeah unless i do something realted to EB has done with the reforms which requires a cmapaign script, i can't affect when it happens, and a variety of factors seem to affect it. But don't worry, they do happen, just be patient.

if you want them taht badly and dont want to wait around, just mod the export_descr_buildings.txt and search for and remove all of these "and marian_reforms"
Think you have to build more than 1 palace.
Thats what I've experienced.

ive found in a vanilla 1.5 roman campain, that the turn after i built my imp palace in italy i got the reforms
It seems to that an Imperial Palace in Rome won't trigger the reforms.
Maybe CA did this so that the Senate wouldn't trigger the reforms in the vanilla game? I don't know, I am only speculating.
Also in v1.5, the reforms are supposed to happen the moment you build an Imperial palace in Italy, so maybe the above could be correct.
my imp palace was not in rome, but in Patavium I think? it was the region on the north-east of italy with a high growth rate.
OK, this is how this should all work: You need an Imperial Palace in Italy, and it will come around in or after 230 BC, maybe in between 220 and 230. I am pretty sure that that is what is supposed to happen, if not then oh well, that is always what happens for me.
Try buidling two or more imperial palaces. In my 4.0 campaign, I had built one in Rome, and then the year when I finished construction of one in Capua, I got the reforms.

Hm, maybe an Imperial Palace in Rome does not work?
This was just the sort of information I was looking for, thank you all for the suggestions. Since no one seems to be quite sure how it all works I will (a) build myself a summer Imperial Palace and (b) be patient. How can anyone wait for 107BC to roll around in other mods? It's not the difficulty, really, I'm just bored of looking at my same old Principes decade after decade.
