All Inclusive Ultimate Official Favorite Denomination of Christianity thread

It's common knowledge that Christianity has been around for 2000 years, or roughly one third of the Earth's existence. In that time there have been enough altercations, animosity, antagonism, arguments, and schisms between believers to fill a book. Well, probably several books. Actually likely several thousands of books. So after spending several hours pondering all of these different denominations, I thought that it would be interesting to see how the forums feels about all of this.

Specifically, what is your favorite denomination of Christianity? I'm partial to the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of Norway. It upholds belief in the Bible, and the Lutheran's church confessions, but it allows its members to vote on several matters. Laymen and Laywomen can, through democracy choose their own clergy and make their own laws. It's a delicious, and ironic coupling of church and state that rubs me in all the right ways.

So, what's your favorite monotheistic judeo-christian faith? Remember, there can only be one!

Anyway, I'm partial to the Oriental Orthodox churches.........and yes, there may be a hint of bias judgement in that statement.

I don't see the Armenian's or the greek Orthodox. And they would be my favorite demonination of christianity.

More because of their history than the religion itself.

My favorite faith, as the last line remarks? Hinduism or Islam. But those two before them are my favorite demoninations of christianity.

Strange list - the Menonite Church of Canada is on it but the largest Christian denomination on earth isn't.

Organised religion is defunct

Second go - organised religion is defunct because it takes away from the two simple things you need to do. Love your God and love those around you. Anything else is utterly unimportant and anachronistic. Ceremony and pomp are relics of a time when religion meant buying your way into heaven.

Just because its tradition doesnt make it right. By all means have priests to give spiritual advice when needed, but for all that is good in this world why force people into confession boxes (for one example) and oppress and scare them with what should be an enjoyable ideal

Well, I would lump Protestants together and say they have been the most beneficial branch by far. This is biased, but I have my reasoning. The Protestant faiths have all promoted free-thinking. Protestant thoughts sparked the Englightenment and the Presbyterian church had huge influences on the founding of America. The Protestants teach their followers more of a personal relationship with God, without the intervention of an all-powerful church. I hae gone to catholic churches etc, and have been blown away by their majesty, but at the end of the day I just can't agree with their theology. Protestant nations are all among the most stable and prosperous now and I hardly find that to be a coincidence.

Non-denominational and independant. My church isn't affiliated with any of these organizations really. It is a splinter church from a Baptist church, so I guess that would be what I would identify it with most on the list, but it really isn't anything like that. It's more of a casual atmosphere kind of church, the former youth minister of the Baptist church is both the pastor and the lead singer of the worship band.

non-denominational, kinda....our church is in the missionary church organization, but thats rly not a denomination, so i guess im non-denominational. We're most like the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church though, if I had to pick one we were like, seeing as our association came from the presbyterian church.

Yeah, WTF. How can you compile a list of christian denominations and not list the original and largest of them?

Anyway, I hate all but one christian denomination equally. I respect, though despise, Catholicism. I mean, come on, they're the most bureaucratic, structured, ordered, armylike, moblike, etc. of them all. And they've kept a grasp on most of Europe since Attilla. that deserves some respect.
Personally, I don't organized religion period. They're weird and make little sense to me. :laughing:

Becuase denominations follow a guidline to their kind. For example Presbyterian Usa has all of its churches organized and they meet at general assmbly.( in short they unify theology teachings to the churches standards. Non denominational churches dont have anything of the sort, they follow the gospel of christ, but the individual church sets up its doctrine, not unity with other churches.

no, becuase no non-denominational churches are linked with eachother. Their is no church heirarchy. You are part of that church and their is no regional/state/national organization as you would find in every denomination.

It can be risky, becuase non-denominational can be very deviant from standard teachings, so you have to be careful with them.
