Default What are the tallest mountains in the world?

I have looked online, and can't find a suitable answer: does anyone have a list of the tallest mountains in the world? Not highest above sea level, but tallest, as in base to summit, taking into account any plateaus and multiple peaks. And underwater sections don't count. In other words, what is the most one can climb from base to summit on a mountain in the world? I'm pretty sure Denali is the answer, but what I really can't find is others, a top 5 or top 10 if possible.

I think this might be what you're looking for. When in doubt, wiki it.

The tallest Mountain (based on a base above sea level) is MountMcKinley followed by Mount Kilimanjaro and then MountNanga Parbat
"Source" I don't know if it's correct but MountMcKinley/Denali is at least in first place. The wikipedia tables use weird values.

    Mauna Kea, in Hawaii.

While it is just about 13,800 above sea level, its base starts under water much, much further. In terms of real height, it is well over 33,000 ft tall, taller than Mt. Everest.

Chimborazo is the tallest mountain, as it's the furtherest from the centre of the Earth. But by your definitions, it doesn't count, as it's not the largest from base to tip.

By your definition you are correct.

    By sea level its Everest.

By true size its Mauna Kea.
