Default Lack of textures on Rome:Total War Models

I have just bought a new PC, 1GB RAM, 3.2 GHz Intel 4 HT processor. However, I cannot fix this graphic bug in Rome: Total War. In the strategic map mode, the units and flags are just blocks of colour. They are all the right shape, but they just have no detail on them - they are just simply a single colour. The battle map isn't much better, the terrain is very bland. I have an ATi Radeon X300 SE 128MB. I know they aren't held in particularly high regard, but it works beautifully with my other newer games, e.g. Call of Duty 2, Star Wars: Empire at War. As far as I know, I have updated all the drivers I can - graphics card, windows etc. Updating Rome doesnt have any effect either. Please help, im dying to play it!!

Weird. Have you installed any mods?

Would you be willing to try reinstalling the game? its possible the problem is corrupted game files, though im no expert on the game so i couldnt say if this sort of error has happened to anyone else

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, but to no avail. However, I only uninstalled the game using Add/Remove programmes in Control Panel. Do I need to remove any other hidden files or reg entries?

This used to happen with a friends computer, but his GPU was 32MB and below the minimum requirements, that is why. They were all gray people...

If it is an X300 SE, that means it is underclocked, usually. But, I cant help you that much

Thing is the card works pretty well with my other games, Call of Duty 2, Star Wars: Empire at War etc., both of which are quite visually demanding. So I'm not convinced it's due to lack of graphic power, but some kind of 'communication' mix-up between RTW and my card. I've been kind of looking at the .txt files, but firstly haven't seen anything unusual in them, and also don't actuall know much about them!

I cant say for sure but it is most likely a problem from your graphics card under performing, if youre sure youve got the latest drivers and such. Having quickly checked, the card you say you have really does appear to be pretty much as min spec as they come for PCI express, for only £25 on ebuyer. At this point i think a better card coudnt really hurt regardless!

When reinstalling the only thing i can think of is to install to an alternative location, though i doubt that will make much difference really.

Maybe someone else will have better advice though

Hey Dude, that card is the standard, bottom o' the line ATI card that Dell puts in their computers. One of those came in my Dell 8400 and it is definately, not a gaming card. Its old technology and has like 2 pipelines.
RTW seems to prefer the nVidia cards anyway.Check out the system requirements on the box, ATI 8500 and up and all nVidia GeForce 3 and higher. At the time of that printing, that included just 6 ATI cards! Betcha money that the problem is the Radeon X300 SE. Hey,look at it this way, its an excuse for your first upgrade!
