    Default I need balance

I've implemented a lot of units into my copy of RTW. Many of these units had not stats before I made them. But does anyone know of a formula, or method or determining how much a unit should cost and all that. I mean I can make up numbers but I just feel that they are a little off. If no one has I'll get to work making my own but it would be a lot easier if someone has determined some way of figuring these things out.

All you have to do is simply edit the "descr_units" txt file.

hm i allways compare the units i make with similar units that are in the game allready.

eg i make a new axeman unit for the germans. then i look for the stats of the vanilla axemen and take them as a template. then i try to fine tune it. eg the new unit i ad has darts to throw before they use axes then i maybe reduce their axe attack a bit to compensate..or give them less armor.

in the end you have to try the unit in a custom battle against other units to see if your units is too stong or too weak. if my unit is too strong i usually either make it weaker or just increase the upkeep and unit costs and make it somewhat an elite unit.

it is very timeconsuming the way i do it, but you dont want to end up with a faction that just wins each battle by just going there.

i dont think anybody has prepared way to add unit stats because in every mod its balanced differently.
i mean some have high upkeep and unitcosts to make battles more decesive. some add more moral to all troops to make battles last longer. some reduce the atatck values and increase the armor values for longer battles.

however, whatever u do u have to keep the unitstats in relation with each other.

if a principes has25 armor so they fight long, then an unarmored unit must have 19 or 20 armor at least too.

n the end it comes down to simply checking in the game if it seems fair. this is a hard and timeconsuming task

Well I suppose I'll have to do that. The problem though is not the time but in order to balance the units you have to have some balance to begin with. Let me explain. I have before done what you said. I do one on one custom battles and see how it turns out then I adjust armor, cost, and attack accordingly. But the problem is the difficulty setting. You see, when you have it set on medium and you pit two identical units against each other you are likely to win. But if you set it to hard you lose. So you see if I were to change the stats so that it was more or less even for one difficulty or another and then change sides it would no longer be even. With this in mind it makes it incredibly difficult if not impossible to balance units that are not identical to one another. So you see it would be prudent to develope a formula that more or less says "Okay, 11 armor plus 7 attack equals x for cost and y for upkeep". Naturally I would have to take moral, charge bonus, mount, etc., etc., into account but you get the idea. But as it seems no one has done this I will have to take it upon myself to come up with one, if only for myself.

well a formula definately would make things easier..then again everybody wants units behave in its mod differently so many ppl would want different formulas i guess
