    Icon5 Problems, problems, and oh look... More problems

    I presume this is the right thread. It's about mod converting, though it only involves text editing.

    I'll try and keep this as short and explanatory as possible:

    I'm working on a submod for Third Age Total War as a co-dev on the Massive Overhaul Submod team. (click my sig...) And with the release of TATW 3.1 I was tasked with converting our current MOS version to TATW 3.1. Naturally, I had problems. Many of them I fixed on my own but I am in need of some help, if I am unable to find an answer another dev will likely take over the current conversion. (which I have no problem with) But I shall very much like to try and solve this myself. (with help from a 3-rd party ofc )

    So... Here's what I modified:
    export_descr_unit

    What I don't understand is that I have not touched the EDB or descr_culture file... Can't figure out what's going on here. I have troubleshooted all my modified files and sure enough, taking them out and replacing them with vanilla TATW 3.1 files does not fix it. (or rather it gives another crash about a missing something... Be it a line of code or what not that I have already fixed with my files that I'm trying to 'adapt') So... What's causing this? Or if no one know perhaps some good advice on where to take it? (besides to the trash can )

    At first,
    did you make backups of the vanilla game and your changed files?

    Don't forget to make backups if you don't want to reinstall after every mistake your game!

    Stupid answer alert, having modified descr_regions did you delete map_rwm and could you post the edb at line 9154. It sounds like you are encountering errors in the ownership line at the top of the building entry.

    Yes, backups of the unmodded MOS files and unmodded TATW 3.1 files... I always make backups because I hate reinstalling

    EDIT: @Moon deleted map.rwm... There isn't anything at line 9154 according to Minas Moth, he says it's the very last line with nothing on it... Yes, I thought something of the sort... How should I go about 'fixing' it when it wasn't modified to begin with?

    Another stupid answer alert, descr_cultures, descr_strat and export_descr_buildings are usually the cause of such errors, there is probably a mismatch between those files. Are you merging by hand or using an handy tool like Winmerge.

    Look for the first warning above it. Sometimes there is a clue buried in there that is not fatal.

    Not a stupid answer for an 'inexperienced' modder

    I'm merging by hand, but... What is this tool you speak of? Would you elaborate please

    I'll go double check descr_cultures and descr_strat and see what happens. But feel free to keep bouncing off suggestions anyone

    Well it's vanilla TATW 3.1 descr_strat, EDB, and descr_culture files. That what I don't get, how are those causing a crash I can't find a solution to when they're vanilla files to begin with. They should be fine

    You can compare files with winmerge and for every difference between the files you can select, copy from the file on the right to the one on the left or copy from the one on the left to the one on the right

    Those EDB errors are also in vanilla Third Age 3.1.

    I've always had those EDB errors in KGCM for the aztec faction and they have never caused the game to crash at any point....i don't think that's the source of the issue....i would try checking elsewhere for the issue....i've also found that it is helpful to know what should be next to load as that is likely to be what's causing the crash....run the game in a good state and once the game is loaded look at the system log and see what should be loading right after the last current line and that would be the source of the crash....that's how i solve most of my unknown crashes....

    Yes I was able to fix it, turned out it was due to a missing culture. Forgot the submod added Dunland.
