The specialty units that can be recruited at the scholaie barracks or whatever, they're two beast units cant be recruited ,even though the building is there. I dont really understand why, when ive done previous campaigns and they were available...

They are only available after the Fourth Laternan Council event (about 1204 I think). Until then they can only be retrained.
Oh ok, thanks Clivus. My other campaign MUST have been late campaign then, i generally only play early campaign. Doing one with the Turks now just starting, whats best way to hold of Byzzies, aggressively attack them with horse archer armies??
Yeah, i just try to use armenian cavalry as bait to hit they're generals with my bodyguard charges then take down their spearmen with horse archers so my heavy cav doesnt get slaughtered.
Whats the best way to handle alamanoi, i try to pepper them with arrows, doesnt work, and try triple siding them with 2 bodyguard and 1 armenian heavy cav and they still kill like all my units. I try repeated charges from two sides while using the armenian cav as a distraction and still i cant kill them. Help??
Try using crossbows and javelins. Not sure what units of those types the Turks get![]()
Turks have an abundance of javelins but are quite light on crossbows. IIRC they dont have much in the way of good foot spearmen either but even a couple of cheap spear units should be able to hold them in place while you throw javelins at their backsides.
Turks can't train crossbowmen unless you have a Citadel.
The early Turkish roster is really poor. However, by 1200, you get the Turkish Ghulam Cavalry, which is the best normally trainable cavalry unit in terms of cavalry vs cavalry combat for about 150 turns after that (since they have a really high attack and AP maces).

Other than Byzantines (who can always spam Athenatoi bodyguards) and Mongols, the Turks definitely have the best roster from 1200-1300, and is still very strong after that.
From what i see they keep getting units till really late in the game. And good ones at thatThese are the Ottoman and Jannisary events needed to recruit them, might have missed one or two though.

I have a problem with Byzantium of a different sort.
Playing as them, I´ve noticed the AI behavior of moving the mega-stacks guarding the greek cities, including Constantinople. What happens? It becomes super easy to capture cities - It´s turn 30 and I already got Constantinople... Needless to say that that rebel behavior makes playing as Byzantium a bit (a lot?) easier than it should.
I've seen the AI rebels move the huge stacks at Adrianople and Constantinople out of the settlements, and thus making them very easy to capture. However, this only happens in about 1/3 the campaigns I've played.
Interesting. I´m a bit divided on that issue... For countries with lots of neutral provinces nearby (specially the byzantines) that does make things a bit too easy. If it weren´t for constant agression from neighbours like Venice and Fatimids I´d probably have some 6 extra provinces by turn 24.
