Default So I made the family *idiot* the Faction Leader...

...and it dawned on me... it doesn't *matter* who is the Leader... what overall effect does he have other than that he is a town Governor and gains a few bonuses from the faction leader position. Meanwhile the family *genius* got passed up.

Seriously though- WTF does it matter who is leader... and will this matter in M2TW? Does it matter who is king!?

    Am I overlooking something?

Not really. The faction leader status might improve in games that focus on traits like EB but for the most part it's needless.

Hopefully MTWII focuses more on the faction leader position. It would be great to see conflict occur when two sons of a king seek to claim the right to the throne.

But that's like any other governor. Your faction leader's stats should affect your ENTIRE kingdom/faction to some degreee. If he's an idiot you should suffer, if he's a genius you should gain rewards...

ACtually, it probably will matter in MTWII. I mean, in MTW, it mattered a lot. The King's influence, dread, and piety (I'm not sure about acumen, but probably) all had an effect in the game. The influence made other countries accept alliances more readely, the dread made the loyalty go up,the piety made the zeal go up in the country, and the acumen......erm.......I'll get back to you on that

God I HOPE it matters a LOT in MTW2, that's all. I can't figure out a way to mod it to matter in RTW, however...

That was something that I wished was more important in RTW, the ability of the leader...sudden burst of inspiration, g2g!

I wonder, does the death of your king (on the field) have more of an impact on morale then the death of a normal general ?

It does matter but not a lot. The faction leader gets a few bonuses (1 command star, influence and possibly a management bonus). I often have my faction leader commanding my best army so that star comes in useful. However, it is the extra bodyguards that i find very handy. My leader usually has a lot of experience (often gold chevrons) and having upto 50 bodyguards (large settings - i think the leader can have 2.5 times more bodyguards than your average family member) each with 2 hit points on gold chevrons is pretty formidable.

LOL. Yeah... not too far from the truth. He (the *idiot*) is 44 years old now (ascended at 17) and the Scipiones have done well under him... went through a period of intense wealth (10's of thousands of sesterces/turn; I refuse to say denarii... gimme a break!), and now have 5 standing legions instead of 1 or 2 perfunctory ones... and definite plans for their future expansion. A few battle disasters have occured, but only due to taking some extraordinary risks. Some have paid off.

His stats have improved... but he's totally impotent- has a wife beyond reproach however. Go figure... she must be frigid.

I'd STILL like his early idiocy to have mattered though!

Any one with any ideas what would make a good mod in this direction? It's not that I can't do the modding but in this particular case I lack the imagination to think about what I would do to make it matter...

Well the only way i think you could mod improvements in this direction is to give your faction leader good traits, and those get passed on to his heir, and traits that really improve them ingame.

Except when you have an IDIOT- he shouldn't improve, only get worse (most of the time, Claudius excepting) and make everything worse/harder...

Hah, and here I was thinking "Don't you mean caligula??"

I really seriously doubt that RTW faction leaders have any effect on their factions. The game just seems too shallow to make that connection. There may be a bigger morale hit if he dies in battle though...

the only affect i have noticed is the final money intake it seems that a leader with high management increases you end of year turn over, and one without high mangement lowers the final turn over. That seems to be the only main influence the leader has
