Default Your top five most memorable events in 2011

Well, since 2011 is close to the end, I believe it is time to review what world events that have impressed you this year.

    My top 5:

5th: China's activity in South China Sea, cause a big uproar in TWC here and results a three months hot debates in Mudpit. I do have to admit it is fun to watch our Vietnamese members fell into rage and troll their nationalism threads.

4th: The hunting of Bin Laden, which indirectly supports the well-known fact that Pakistan is shielding Taliban. This, of course, means that the future of Pakistan and Afghanistan is not too bright...

3rd: The heating duel in US Congress between Republican and Democrates, nearly caused Federal government shut down. The outcome of this duel probably would come out next year's president election, but it probably would not save the dying US economy anyway. Suggestion? Get over it Republicans and Democrates, what we need now is Teddy Roosevelt not Reagan!!

2nd: Euro crisis; this event is wayyyyyy too fun to watch. First Greece threw out all the nonsense, then Italy and Spain join the debt party. Lastly, when Franco-German alliance tried to offer the solution, British and Czech slapped Sarkozy's face by rejecting the proposal. Great, I know selfishness and stupidness are two human nature, but Europeans play this two human traits in maximum level during this year... Nevermind, we can still revive gunboat policy anytime if European countries cannot pay their debt.

1st: Protests, whether it is Arab Spring or OWS movement. Of course if those protestors thought their problems would be solved with those petty protests, then they would be disappointed. Anyway, it is still fun to watch those protestors fell from high hope to deep depression, and depression ultimately brings radical change and violence, which my lord welcomes most.

Bonus: Death of Kim Jong-il, which concludes this year nicely.

Conclusion - 2011 is definitly a fun year with a lot of hope and change, yet both also means possible depression and instability. Perhaps that means 2012 would be a fun year to watch those people fell into deep depression and seek more radical solution.

wow, is it already the end of the yr already?
my, my sure has been eventful from start to finish lol.

good 5 points, my top 5:

    5) fukushima nuclear disaster-kinda rocked the entire nuclear power industry which coincided with the shift towards greener tech.

    4) the bending and sheer violation of UN Resolution R2P which i fear will herald a disturbing trend where NATO countries believe it their right to launch crusades against regimes they consider 'abusive' whilst turning a blind eye to the bahrainis (home of the US 5th fleet) or the saudis who're (still!) crushing all forms of dissent.

    3) death of OBL; sure was pivotal and signified the end of an era

    2) President Maliki refusing to allow the US forces to stay on with legal immunity-which resulted in the US departure from Iraq amidst PFANAC and Cheney et al's cries of frustration.

    1) the increase in war talk vis-a-vis Iran. i don't think it's going to defuse anytime soon, especially when 2012 is projected to be a tumultuous time for the world with changings of the guards and electioneering.

bonus: Israel and Saudi Arabia's nipple twisting of Congress to pressure the Administration to increase the likelyhood of an attack on Iran. All this war talk is really boxing the USG into a position where they're going to have to do something or else they're going to lose face big time.

    here goes nothing...

    5) The killing of Bin-Laden, that was a very good start for 2011.

    4) Arab Spring, still ongoing and still violent, but at least people are rising up.

    3) The Dear leader of North Korea died, which i hope would bring the nation more openly to other nations.

    2) Euro Crisis!! Cannot help but list that one down, i had a blust watching in the E.U parliament!!

    1) Not sure about this, but this is what i most remember in 2011, i got slapped pretty hard for being a naughty boy.

    Yeah...
There's nothing to fear but fear itself...

For things not part of my own life - in no particular order; the death of Osama bin Laden (since he has been the face of international terrorism for over a decade), the Libyan civil war and death of Gaddafi (which I kept up with every day), Republican presidential candidate race (possible future presidents saying stupid things and making me laugh), death of Kim Jong-il (curiosity regarding the future of North Korea), South Sudan's independence (creation of a new country), ongoing changes/reforms in Arab states following massive protests (even if ineffective/minimal), Palestine's admittance to UNESCO, the Eurozone crisis, and the death of Jack Layton.

I mostly follow politics and major scientific discoveries or inventions in the news because that is what interests me. Though with science it is usually a long process of prototypes and theories so it's not so memorable.

5- Norway, sparked a number of interesting debates. Plus all the "It was them dam muslims" was a good insight into the way of the TWC members brain.
4- Fukushima, alot of debate on nuclear power (got me watching a crap load of doco's on the topic).
3- Euro debt crisis, literally not going anywhere, im kind of looking forward to some good riots in 2012 if things are going to continue.
2- Iran v West potential conflict, its only going to get more heated next year.
1- Arab spring, alot of interesting events across the Arab world that have so far lead to interesting results. Im hopeful in seeing what will become of all the nations involved.
