Default Laptop On Infinite Reboot Loop

My laptop, on startup, will go straight to a screen asking which mode to startup with (Normal, safe mode etc). Whichever one i choose leads back to the same screen after a few seconds.

    What can i do?

You have a virus (this sounds like one that was going around a few months ago, forget the name). You need to boot to a disk and then run Anit-Virus software and that may clear it up. If not, contact a company like McAfee or Norton and they may be able to providfe you with a rescue disk.

You might have to change your BIOS setting to boot from disk.
The BIOS can be accessed by pressing a certain key during startup (most likely delete).
When you switch your laptop on it wil tell you which key to press for BIOS, just pay attention.

In BIOS make sure the first BOOT option is your CD-ROM drive.
Then you should be able to boot from your windows CD.
If it doesn't work I think you have a hardware problem.

If you can boot from CD it could be a virus, a hardware problem with your harddrive, or a corrupt partition on your harddrive.
In all cases you might want to format your HD and re-install everything. (it's a pain but usually worth it in the end)

Before you do anything you might want to backup your most precious data.
You can do that by connecting your HD to a second computer and simply copy the files there.

After a quick check, you might have the "Sasser" worm. I suggest you do a quick research on this worm on one of the Anti-Virus websites, like McAfee or Norton.

There are other possibilities, have you recently installed any new hardware or software?

This doesn't sound like Sasser, as your computer will actually boot up - albeit only minutes later Windows will restart. It actually sounds more like a hardware failure, in which case there isn't much you can do besides diagnose it by swapping parts. I'd suggest finding a different hard drive to reformat and try.

I had this problem a while back I took it to this person with disk's, including startup ones. And within a week it was fixed. I think he fiddled around in setup.
