Are you patched up to Patch1a level?

If so then there is a problem with the background_script that is included with Patch1a.

To get round it you can try a fix to the script that seems to work with those that have tried it.

The fix is detailed in Bugs+Issues thread for Patch1a at:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...=496587&page=6

The fix is in the attachment here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/attac...5&d=1323532506

Please read post #109 first for directions on how to install it and to see what it fixes.

It would also be great if you could let us know if it fixes your issue or creates any others.

    Hope this helps,

    Battler

It worked =D thanks so much, but I have one more question. I clicked the face that makes the script thing start after you click the building but normally it goes away when you hit once but it came back so I clicked it again. Regardless thre was no CTD but did I do something wrong when I clicked the face twice? thanks

Please continue testing this improved script guys, when it proves to continue solving bugs we'll include it in the next patch.

I was having the same ctd issue. I stumbled across this thread last night, fixed the script as indicated and have been able to play on for many, many turns in a saved game that had always crashed before. I have seen no issues or problems crop up yet.

One thing that may be peculiar to my computer or maybe to Windows 7 that I want to throw out for others who may be experiencing it. When renaming .txt files, if I add the ".txt" to the name, the game always hangs up on boot. If I leave out the ".txt" I have no such issue. In other words, rather than rename the new file background_script.txt, which crashes me back to the desktop on boot, I rename it simply background_script and the game works like a charm. I don't claim to understand it, but it just works.
"We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell them stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I took the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. Give me five bees for a quarter you'd say. Now where were we, oh ya. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because if the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...."

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys - real life getting in the way

Hydra82: good news that things seem to be working. Thanks for the feedback. Also I haven't changed anything for the reforms other than add a terminate_monitor, which as far as I can tell will just exit out of the reforms check on completion. And clicking on the face twice shouldn't be a problem.

blacksmithn: Windows7: have you got in your folder options 'Hide extensions for know file types' enabled? If so then maybe the txt file already has a .txt extension and it sounds like you may be adding another? Just a guess.

    Happy gaming people

Hi, I set up this account time ago, excuse the name. I have a problem on turn 250 with Sparta (the crashing on the Norici faction problem). I downloaded the fix and it solved a CTD earlier in the campaign (like 254) but tried both fixes I found on that page with the Norici problem and have had no success, still crashing on the same bit as I end the turn (on Norici). Any ideas on how to fix this problem? I really, really would rather not start all over again, I will weep. Seriously.
