    these files will give you the Minas Tirith Trebuchet, which is just a small unit tweak I thought of and couldn't have made without the help of Bungo Baggins, who walked me through it.

    THIS IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE BARON'S SUBMOD... all the necessary information for the additional units are still in these files, so if you don't have the submod you're going to end up adding a bunch of units to your game that don't have textures. you also don't have to play with the submod units turned on to access the trebuchet.

    basically, this is the same as Gondor's normal trebuchet but with over twice the reach so you can actually fire from inside Minas Tirith (even from the courtyard) very effectively and replicate the scene in the movie. there are also half as many soldiers attached to each treb, which makes placing them inside the city a little easier. now, this unit can ONLY be made inside of Minas Tirith, and the upkeep was set at 5,000 however they are a free garrison unit (again, only in Minas Tirith). this was done to keep the treb as a defense unit as it's too expensive to field in an army. recruitment is only 950, however, and it's available from the first turn as it's technically trained by the gates.

    I would recommend starting a custom battle in Minas Tirith with 20 of these units and see where the computer auto places them.. that will give you a great idea as to where you can fit them yourself.

    unzip the .rar to your desktop and place the files in the following folders, which are all found inside your third_age_3 folder.

    minas_tirith_trebuchet_info = data>ui>unit info>sicily
    #minas_tirith_trebuchet = data>ui>units>sicily
    export_descr_unit.txt = data
    export_descr_buildings.txt = data
    export_units.txt = data>text

    please don't forget to backup any files you're overwriting. enjoy.

    Won't they take up too much unit count?
    But well, very interesting idea.
    Still there's 60 men in each unit, I'd suggest cutting more. (e.g. to 20-30 men, should be enough)

    Plus the range modification, can you actually make them use double of the original range?
    I remember encountering some bug where the archers, despite having very long range (220+), don't fire at that range.

    BTW the free upkeep part, Minas Tirith only?
    There may be some sneaky try to place them everywhere! lol

    Couldn't start the game with this submod, are you sure it's compatible with Baron Samedi's?

    knightstemplar: the picture was from just editing the original troop. the updated unit is cut in half so it only has 31 or so men. the range modification works fine, I already tested it. from inside the city they can hit enemy units that spawn on the other side of the battlefield. very effective. the free garrison is available in any settlement, so I could see this unit being snuck into osgiliath as well, otherwise I figure if you're willing to pay the 5,000 per turn, you can do whatever you like with them lol. I will note that I also removed the ability to load them onto ships.

    mhaedros: yes, thanks for the help, I forgot to mention you. if you hadn't reminded me about that folder, I wouldn't have double checked and noticed I named the image incorrectly.

    Bungo Baggins found an error in the code where the trebuchet could no longer be built if you upgraded the catapult range, and could only be built with total recruitment off. he thankfully fixed the code and those errors should be corrected. he also tells me that the free upkeep is now available ONLY inside Minas Tirith.

    if you already downloaded the file, just redownload and only replace export_descr_buildings.txt in the Third_Age_3 data file.

    thanks so much to Baggins for the help.. even the parts of the text editing I did was just his knowledge funneled through my fingers. hope this makes for some more movie-like Minas Tirith sieges!!

    This is a mod based on the films and aimed at those wanting to recreate the films, and as such does a fine job. However, the only mention of defending siege engines in "the Siege of Minas Tirith" says in fact that there are none inside the city that can reach out and stop the attackers' setting up theirs. Another point where those F*ing films F*ed up.

    Enjoy your film mod- it is a fine little one, but as it seems to me that 3.1 is much more lore accurate than 2.1 (except regarding the Shire), I believe fervently that no mod tweaking the game to be more filmic instead of Lore-ish, should be included.

    TATW is NOT lore accurate. Let me give you some examples:
    - overall balance: in TATW 1 stack of goblin scum beats 1 stack of Elves on autoresolve.
    - Elves: 500 Eldar Elves (4 units of Eldar infantry in TATW) would wipe out all the Orcs in the Misty Mountains according to lore. Alas, there were not 500 Eldar Elves at that time, while a player can field a full stack of them. Have I mentioned that 4 units of Eldar lose against 5 units of Orcs in TATW?
    - more balance issues: Mordor has the worst economy in Middle-earth in TATW, which prevents the Dark Lord from having great armies. In fact, Gondor can support more troops than Mordor.
    - The Dark Lord: In TATW, the Dark Lord sits in a hidden village in the North and often excommunicates Mordor.
    - Gondor family tree: in 2980 TA, Ecthelion II was a king of Gondor. Faramir and was not even born at that time and Boromir was a two-year-old.

    I could go on and on about this but I think you now understand that the lore argument against the Minas Tirith trebuchets is ridiculous. Especially since almost all visuals of TATW are based on the movies.
