"Dreaming With Alice - Mark Fry" A True Lost Classic

So I discovered this album nearly a month ago now, and it blew me away. This mysterious album was made by a very talented English musician named Mark Fry in 1972 when he was only 19 years of age.


The album is some of the best psychedelic folk I have ever heard. Even if this isn't your usual genre, listen to it anyway.
The opening track " Dreaming with Alice " is a song that fades in and out throughout the entire album, coming in short verses throughout the entire album. Although every song for me does its job incredibly well, the ones that stand out are " The Witch ", " Roses For Columbus", "Mandolin Man", "Song For Wilde"
The songs have an intimacy, and yet a personal detachment. Mark fry is not connecting with us on a personal level, but on a subconscious/ spiritual level. The songs are surreal and abstract in lyrics and musical content. I was surprised to hear that this album did not get that much attention when it was released. I am assuming it had to do with the time it was released ( 1972 ) and the country it was released in ( Italy - Mark Fry moved there to study painting after school ). I honestly think this album is a work of genius.

Definitely a lost classic, one of my favourites ever (and honestly the one I'd rip off most if I could play guitar at all)

He's actually got a new one out a few years back, I've only heard a bit of it but it sounds good. Different singing style and no psychedelia though.

I love Espers God! haha. Yeah his newer stuff is kind of more classic folk I think, he lost the psychedelic touch!
