Default .sd.xml are not injected into .sd

The title pretty much sums it up. I do the changes in .sd.xml but the .sd file remains unaffected. I even deleted the file and it did not regenerate it upon game start-up. However if I change something directly in the .sd file it crashes the game. Since I run Win7-64bit I suspect some virtual storage or something but I have M2TW installed in non-standard directory so it should not be the case. Search does not reveal any .sd files outside of the M2TW directory.

Is there a way to manually convert .sd.xml into .sd? And why does the game not reflect the changes made in the .xml as it should? And most importantly, where the heck it takes its UI files from when I delete them?!

Thanks for any help with this.

This means you have an error(s) in your .sd.xml that prevents it from being regenerated.

Ah! Thanks, I did have an error there indeed. Now it works fine.

or even if you haven't made mistakes, that you got some of your facts wrong..like having exceeded some hardcoded limit and thus, even though the .sd gets auto-edited it causes a crash

edit: seems like you found it, while i was typing my response
