Thread: (Historical Battles Project) The Siege of Minas Tirith - Version 2.1 is UP, Helm's Deep - Version 1.0 has been released (Read OP for details)

    I know you're going for more film themed battles but would you consider making the reinforcements footsoldiers? It would also be cool if they arrived after a certain amount of time so you had to resist the Uruk-hai until then
    Were there but a tree in this godforsaken place i would have hanged myself.

    The Rohan reinforcements for the Helm's Deep battle are timed to arrive after 25 minutes. Isn't that enough time? Not to mention that the battering ram reaches the gate at minute 15 so you will have to hold the gate for 10 minutes until you get any kind of help.

    That seems grand, i didn't know about that That would be a horrifically long wait in the hornburg since there's so many uruks and so many unblockable entrances

    If you mean Gondor, I don't believe there were any Gondor reinforcements in the film? What was there before the battle was all there was for Gondor.
    As for Rohan, Rohan would have to be mounted.

    I do indeed not mean Gondor. I was referring to the books in which Erkenbrand descends with the helmingas from the western hills on foot with Gandalf.

    Metallistic i dont know if u read what i put before. im saying this because i have no idea about modding and i dont know if it is possible, but couldnt you make the uruk hai (helms deep) wait like 10 minutes before they start attacking. Then make the rohan cavalry (which originally started in the castle) walk to the top of the hill and make them wait there. all of this whilst the battle has started, then after 10 minutes the uruk ahi start advancing against helms deep and ignore the cavalry. then you start the fight blablabla and then at one moment make the cavalry charge down attacking the uruk?
    Is it possible?

    Don't think it is possible and even if it is, it would be totally unpractical. As soon as I manage to sort out this reinforcement issue, I will upload the Helm's Deep battle.

    mmmm then how will u do it, i tryed something today, which is i has this unit of cavalry attack the urk hai making them entertained whilst the rest of the cavalry went to hide in the mountain. Yes it is unpractical but it worked more or less just it wasn´t like the filmd at all. Hey why isnt gandalf in minas tirith? also why don´t you like the army of the dead, i agree it would be very very unfair on the orc army but if we want to make it look like in the films its is what happened. maybe have them appear like right in the end when it dosn´t really matter just so adleast it looks like the films.

    Instead of the Oathbreakers, you could follow the book and have Aragorn arrive late with armies from other parts of Gondor.

    Very epic battle! I really enjoyed it

    I have one Hell of a machine, but it still laggs in the battle for minas tirith. i assume thats normal ? because you guys seem to enjoy it lagg-free, or not ? Does it change if I switch the v-sync ?

    Yes, I am thinking about it... The main problem is that I have already used the maximum number of armies possible (8).

    Eomer. As for Gandalf... I think there is a problem with his texture when trying to use him with another faction except Eriador.

    I already commented several times on the oathbreakers... I do try to represent the movies for the most part, but that does not mean that I will include EVERYTHING, even the things that I don't like. I think that the oathbreakers have no place at Minas Tirith.

    That can be fixed by just editing the modelsdb file. It's fairly easy, if you want i could probably do it but that wouldn't be for a few days (christmas and all).

    Ok, I think I have detected the problem with the Rohan reinforcements for the upcoming Helm's Deep batte... For some odd reason the battle editor doesn't make the reinforcement to be controlled by the AI, but makes this army to be "supportive". What I am trying to say is that the player will be able to control units from the reinforcement, depending on the number of FREE unit slots. Does anyone know how to make this cavalry reinforcement controlled by the AI, instead of waiting to be controlled by the player? I hope you guys can understand what I am trying to say.

    Yes, it definitely is related. If I set the army to be a reinforcement arriving after X amount of minutes, this is when the issue occurs. If I don't do it - there is no problem. The separate Rohan army has AI and everything is normal.

    No. What I am trying to say is that if the additional Rohan army is not set to arrive after X amount of time, everything is normal.

    If I set it to be a reinforcement and arrive in, let's say 15 minutes, when it does, there will be no AI commanding the reinforcement. Instead, I will be able to command units, depending on how many free unit slots I have during that time.
