Rome Gold cant play RTR
when i want to build a new empire it tells me, that i do not have 1.6, i shall update it
but i can not update it, because it is gold and not compatible to the 1.6 updates, and actually the gold version should be updated already ...
btw, what is the best rome mod out there?
what is the difference between RTR and EB and SPQR and the other BIG mods

RTW Gold has had some issues regarding patch versions, I would make sure your are patched correctly. You can check which patch version you have in the ingame options menu, top right corner.

RTR VII beats them all. In my opinion, the best are RTR and EB. They improve every aspect of the game; battles, economy, models, campaign, etc. RTRVII beats EB 1.2, but i think RTR and EBII will be very close. I give an edge to EB because its a Medieval total war mod and not a rome mod. Then again, i could give the edge to RTR becuase by the looks of it, EBII will come out in 2020.

I ran into that problem also with my gold game aswell. i have a solution, but it costs $9.99. Download the "digital" rome gold from SEGA.com. its update to 1.6.

EB II will be based on the M2TW engine. As for EB for RTW, it's horrendously unstable. I wouldn't be surprised to find that I've had less than ten CTDs in five+ years of playing through RTR Gold, RTR PE and RTR VII. With EB, I'd expect to have at least that number in a week of sustained playtime.Originally Posted by matekaitis

I have both retail (the old Activision disks) and Steam. No issue at all with either. RTW is at 1.5 while BI is at 1.6
To play RTR VII you need BI 1.6
