    Default India: Total war

Ive been toying with this idea for a while now.
It would obviously be a mod focusing on india,
http://geacron.com/home-en/?sid=GeaCron875942 (1522 your gonna want to move to india and zoom a bit )
this is the timeframe im thinking, although im open to suggestions. Im drawn to this time as the timurids and mughals are both alive and therefore playable. There is also no one power controlling much of india, which should hopefully provide for a difficult and challenging game.
I also like this date as it gives you a small amount of time to build up before european powers start to establish. The brits, portugal and the dutch being emergent powers. This however would mean they wouldnt be playable. Earlier than this and you have the massive mongols not to much north, which are likely just to massivley expand all over the map.

I want india as the main focus of the mod, but i dont know how far the map should expand in each direction. West obviously allows inclusion of the middle east and actually the european powers in that timeframe as spain and portugal have small parts of africa.
East allows the inclusion of china and the diverse cultures there aswell as parts on indonisia. Ive even toyed with the idea of including parts of australia.
Even just going east would allow portugal to be playable as it has control of some of indonisia.
So im open to where the borders would begin and end atm, so all suggestions are welcome.

the europeans would provide determined and "unkillable" enimies, as you obviously cant kill of a major power halfway across the map. So they will act as horde factions, with scripted invasions constantly attacking your resources. Removing their armies and settlements they may have taken in india will give you some breathing space, untill their next invasion, or untill you convince them india isnt worth the effort.

Right now, im just really looking to shape out the idea and get a feel if people would be intrested in a mod of this type, before i start fully on the work.

    so, thoughts?

early modern India (like Southeast Asia) is an awesome setting for a Total war mod....sadly they are both very overlooked regions

If i were to choose a timeframe, id say 1505 (when the first europeans arrived at sri lanka) to 1707 (high point of the Mughal Empire). Obviously its your call though

If you get this mod off the ground id be happy to help with the Ahom Kingdom of Assam, as well as any factions east of there you choose to include (although in my opinion it wouldnt make much sense to include anything east of Assam, possibly the Arakan kingdom in Burma but anything else would be completely irrelevant to Indian history)

    Good luck

Very little Islamic book painting has been preserved from the sultanate period before the advent of the Mughals in 1526. These miniatures come from a manuscript made by an artist who was highly influenced by Jain art from western India. Both the intense palette and the depiction of figures differ from those found in other Islamic painting.

Thanks very much lads, my internet is down atm which is why ive been silent

@pazu, thanks for the offer ill probably take you up on that as were in need of historians i know what you mean about not having an effect on india, but id ike to have part of the mod as not part of india to try and add some variety to the factions.

@durzhina great job with the links, although many arent working for me? It could be that im not using my own internet.

@javito nice dates, ill have to rule out 1170 as its to close to the mongols, which could easily start to consume the map and make balance tricky, as well its to close to BCs timeframe and im trying to keep them both seperate
1325 aswell because massive empires already control the map
1400 looks good, slightly concerned about timurids, but i think so close to that period it might be better to wait and make the mugals playable.
1545 looks good, any reason why it would be better than 1505 or 1522?

The only thing I did was to put the link of one of the examples Geacron shows on their page about periods. (http://geacron.com/periods). So I really do not know exactly why they have selected some dates...

Maybe you should also try to get the book called "the emperors wrighting". It's about the life of Akbar the great (of the mughal empire). I'm currently reading it myself and i think it's one of the best i have ever read.

if you pick India in the Mughal times then you'd have to include the Indian factions as well. Mughal India was historically rent with revolts, wars and a number of independent principalities without which the Mughal warfare loses its lustre. there would be Rajputs (different kingdoms) divided by clans and clan pride (some joined Mughals, others fought them), Jats, Marathas, Sikhs, Afghans, Tribals (Bhils, Gonds etc), Ahoms, kingdoms of Deccan among others. Most of south India was not under Mughal rule but didnt engage with them militarily because of distance. they come more into focus when the Europeans arrive.
