I play RTR 6.0 Gold, at the present time, and as some of you know, I always play as the Romans.
Last night, I landed 3 centuries of Hastati just south of Gergovia, intended to be a garrison for that town. As I started marching them north, they were ambushed by a full stack of Iberian troops, commanded by a "family member". The ambush failed, and I was able to establish a defensive position on the top of some rocks.
The battle began in earnest, shortly after that.
When it was over, 108 Hastati were dead, but 875 Iberian troops had perished, and their general was dead! The rest of the army fled before my uber-Hastati, and my boys went on their merry way towards Gergovia, each of them having earned an experience chevron.
Out of fairness to the Iberians, I can say that most of their force consisted of Gallic Warbands, and just three units of Caetrati soldiers. But they still should have won, having started out with a 5-1 numerical superiority.
This also is why I fight every battle on the battlemap, no matter how insignificant. It's a human against the AI. You've got a chance, no matter the odds.
Anyone else had a victory against overwhelming odds?
