    Default Harad and Mumakil

Firstly must say I'm loving 3.0, I haven't explored it fully yet but one big difference you notice immediately is how much smoother everything is - the new textures defo make a difference.

I'm playing as Harad (who I've never tried before) and although I'm still only in the early game I was trying to work out the quickest and best way to get Mumakil. However it seems to me very likely that they are almost impossible to get! (Or at least without cheating or using a submod like total recruitment).

In theory there are several regions which have the Mumakil resource and can build them. However according to the building browser only castles can build Mumakil stables. Since only one of these regions starts as a castle (remember you can't convert cities into castles and vice-versa on TATW) then clearly you can only get Mumakils in that one place.

However the problem doesn't stop there. In order to build Mumakil stables you need to upgrade your wooden castle several levels until it becomes a "Citidal". However due to the slow growth of castles on TATW and the inability to manipulate taxes in them such upgrades are notoriously rare - indeed I have seen several people on this forum state that often they will go through an entire campaign without upgrading a single castle.

Therefore it seems to me impossible to get these awesome units (which lets face it are the main reason for playing Harad), or at best I will have to wait 200+ turns to get them. Am I correct in this, or is it possible to get them sooner?

Don't let the Barrack Events fool you, you will be able to recruit them in cities after the second event, given that the city is large enough.

    harad is a good faction.
but i also never build mumakils regularly.
i cheated my castle with "add_population" cheat, just to upgrade them to citadell. later i reduced the population to standart.

Umbar is your best bet to recruit them but it's a pretty long walk from there, since for some reason you can't put them in your boats (atleast in the previous patch)

Perhaps it would be nice to implement something like a sea-cargo... without guns but the mumakil transport ability...
My connection is slow... I will check out ( in a few years... ) if that is possible!

It isn`t. Whether a Unit can board ships or not is specified in their data files.

I just started a new Gondor campaign using Baron Samedi's mod compilation, and already Harad has a full stack army with the snake warrior dudes and one unit of Mumakil. This was my first time encountering Mumakil and was berly able to kill one of them whille the rest of Harad slaughtered my army.... I can't let them take Linhir!! What the hell do I do!?!

So far as I know, pelargir marines' javelins are the best counter to mumakil. Keep the marines throwing javelins from behind a line of regular militia and you should be able to take them down. I've not tried this myself, but it should work in theory.

I personally duck behind a sofa and cry

I once sent an entire stack of generals against a unit of Mumakil
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

Check one of the many "mumakil thread"s. Basically: javelins and artillery.

Ballistae will be the best artillery due to its better accuracy when targeting units. Remember that no matter what unit an artillery piece hits it is an automatic kill.
    Sort of makes Sauron pathetic

not quite...........correct me if i'm wrong, but i saw on several occations that a troll get a ballista through their body (side note: don't know why their actual size seems to be as big as the ordenary infantry, this make them hard to hit which is not realistic) and they turn bloody but didn't go down, and i saw the same happened to balrog too.

now back to the topic, you cannot recruit mumakil at Umbar, even though they have a mumakil resource on the map same goes to some other settlements. your best hope would be Hyarmen or what ever the start capital is, it's a city, so quickly put a general to war and get high respect then get his butt in there and transfer from other generals useful ancillaries like architect, or just item that give respect like a orc blade (fight mordor to get it). however actually you need a high respect general to have a "governer's influence" growth boost, and it's only 0.5% , can't be more it seems

Exactly! I don't know if this is a bug, but it is so. If one checks the building tree in Umbar, Mumakil training ground isn't there for some reason, so your best bet is indeed Hyarmen, as your castles are way too small.

I believe the Mumakil becomes available in cities only after the barracks event, so it wont show up in the tree before then. No personal experience, so I could be wrong.

I have had great success against mumakil with catapaults but for the best chance to hit them you really need them to be charging right at you. If you are unlucky with the first two shots you wont get a third...

also, as a sugestion, they don't seem to fit trough the city gates, and should't take part in siges, though killing one with a balista in the plaza and letting the elefants take care of the rest of the pirates is priceless

no i knew that but i'm talking about "after" barrack event, Umbar and the other city on the far east (occupied by Rhun at the 2nd or 3rd turn, normally) won't be able to recruit Mumakil even though THEY DO HAVE THE MUMAKIL RESOURCE after the event. don't know why

i think it's bug, care to report it?
