    Default The Map!

Hello everybody .... here is the map of RES GESTAE, you may ask why it has a special orientation and goes up to the Gange , the reason is this ....

I was tired of the classical CA map and I wanted to make something new and original , also , I wanted to include more parts of Africa to make a Meroitic kingdom , tought after time and researches I discovered more interesting to make the Mauryan faction , so I enlarged further east the map ... this way I have cutted away lot of desert regions , that instead you have in the Mundus Magnus and other maps , as well as much of empty steppes of the norht east ....

The map could still be subject to further changes couse is still a work in progress .... I have made the map myself tought at a certain point I haven't been able to make it work so I asked for help , this came by Ngr , also known as Dead Moroz, that fixed all the erros I made and made it operative and working ..... to me remained the refining like adding provinces , smoothing etc.... after making lot of work on it , again I made some kind of mistake that made the map again not working , so I sent the map to Seleucos Nicator I , the one is making small changes and fixes to it ..... Thankyou to those two great modders hopefully this map will be operative , tought they are not working for Res Gestae and are busy with other project ...Finally Lionskin come to help me there adding his great abilities he is working on implementing new climatic areas and refining technical aspects of the map as well as fixes , bugs etc.....

    ~

here is the current map ....

Little bit of work on new interface for Barbarian culture , thanks to Prof for pointing out how to do and helping on this....

    Lionskin:
Here's a quick update, creating a new canopy model for the jungle seemed to remove the black spots some what, i just scaled the palms on the palm model and used it as a new canopy model for the jungle.

    Best Regards,
    T.

It would really be a shame if this mod doesn't get released...

im curious about one thing. i really appreciate that someone made a mod that fully incorporates india into the mix, but is there more land? what i mean is italy, for example, wider than it was in the vanilla rtw. because (now, im no modder) i think that having an extended map is great, but it is also imporant to have a lot of area in which to have land battles and not jusat seiges. I mean, i like it regardless, but after i played spqr, i kind of ghot hooked on that "wide" thing. u kno wat i mean? im sayin it took me more than 1/4 of my movement points to march across italy.

well since you say you are new, you prob dont know this... but there is a limited size the map can be. its hardcoded so none of us can do anything about it... kind of a drag because i helped on this map a little and its a sick map, shame that it cant be a "zoomed in" version.. which is what i think you mean.

How many provinces are there? Are you puching the limit to 199? And are the massive aount of provinces below the nile delta realy neccissary? Would theynot be more effective showing the various cit states of Greece or the strategical importance of Syria and Italy? Same could be said of the many provinces surrounding the homelands of Parthia and Below Saudi Arabia, as the player will not likely be too concerned about these areas, easpecialy the latter.

I hope they would surpass the 199 limit. I like very long campaigns.

I like the trees on the campaign map,

those palm ones are great, they remind of a crop of similiar looking plants in my neighbours back yard.

oooh i loove large maps, if i ever could learn how to edit them then i would make the russian to india area far more packed with cities so that is its like in europe, then i would take away the possibility to build walls and put epic/ large walls on some really special cities like jerusalem and babylon, rome etc.. and then i would put stone walls on all the other faction capitals including some islands and 2-3 cities in the new russian-indian area, it would mean an helot of fighting and an possibility of making an kingdom in an distant land that auctally has an chance, that would make a fun game, and i would put an zealous garrison of elite troops in jerusalem and make in rebel and in the russian stone walls cities too.

EDIT; what i am really trying to say here is... can i use your map for personal campaigns (and share it with others who would want it) and modify it if ill ever learn?

personally, i like smaller maps with more provinces, that way there's less moving neccessary to get to the fighting. i mean, RTR's map wasnt that much bigger than RTW vanilla's in terms of size, but they increased the number of provinces by quite a lot, so there were something like 9-10 provinces in italy, sicily was 3 provinces, malta was its own province... though the one above looks good. keep up the good work guys!
P.S. i personally think that more provinces in greece would be a good idea too.

I just don't like how the large map is so slanted...makes it kind of confusing to look at and quickly make out locations. Maybe you could make it as large but more horizontal?

usually when i attack cities, a relief force comes along anyways, so i end up fighting a pitched battle. as far as i'm concerned, more settlements means more cash and more soldiers.

Yup, put it on Very hard campaign and you got yourself an ocean of soldiers to cut plow through

Thunks for most exciting map among all RTW mods.
Like RTRs' maps,I think areas of right above part in the map are too plain compared with real terrain.
Especially there should be no path in the north of Khiber path between India and Central Asia.
And I hope that Indian east coast will be drawn to use full capacity of hardcode limitation of campaign map.

You`ve resurrected a 3 years all thread. The map has been completed long time ago and the final version is the one in the mod(that is available for download above). I doubt any modifications would be done to it though.
