Stumbling through the internet the other day, i happened across this gem of a story.

At first, i wasnt sure whether to post this in the religion or politics section, but i think the religious aspect is more prevalant here (mods, please feel free to move it if you disagree)

Obviously, the date has a lot of significance to religious and/or extremist types, so i can understand the police keeping an eye out for any trouble.
Still, i cant help but be amused that this fictional number can cause this much trouble.

Besides, from what i gather, the actual number of the beast should be 616,
(6 1 6, the Number of the beast....)
so surely that means January 1st? or 1st of June by the US date system.
Perhaps someone should warn the colorado police?

Well I think the signs are multiplying for Colorado, state of road 666:

In the first 1926 US Highway plan, what is now US 491 from New Mexico to Cortez was numbered US 560, and from Cortez to Utah was numbered US 450. But by the time the plan was implemented in 1927 US 560 was renumbered to US 666, and by 1934 US 450 had been deleted and taken over by an extended US 160. US 666 was paved by 1939. US 666 had its north end at Cortez all the way up to the end of 1970, when US 160 was shifted to its current route and US 666 was extended northwest to Utah. US 666 was renumbered in its entirety to US 491 in summer 2003 as a result of New Mexico campaigning to improve conditions of the highway and its image.

Psst doesnt matter if its wrong or not the number 666 is what most people believe or know and if a religious nutcase was to be inspired by any number it would be 666 (ie June 6, 2006 not January 6th, 2006) rather then lesser known 616.

Love the 616 reference. Although that is correct, the people who would participate in those type of activites don't strike me as the educated type. Therefore wouldn't care if its really 616 and not 666. However, that evidence makes me think now more then ever that Revelation is about the fall of Rome.

Since Denver is in the US, most people in the states use month/date/year. That being said it would be june 1st, 2006.

From what I can remember of a History Channel special a while back, the Maya didn't do this. They chose some date in our 2024 to be the end of the world. Obviously thats a conversion to our dating system, but it seems creepier cause their system wasn't based on counting from a certain date, it was counting down to something the whole time, some cosmological event. (Which would be like people using BC dating before year "0")
