Only 4 Factions?

After having read the preview(from totalwar.com) i noticed that there is only 4 factions. Correct me if im wrong, but where there not more factions than that? What about the greek city states? And they have also lumped the barbarian tribes into 1 faction. What other factions should there be?

The greeks were already conquered by now. Using the barbarians as one state is a symbology, and allows each army to have many more men. Really, no other factions are required for a fun, semi-historical game.

The Greeks weren't fully conquered yet. The first thing that happened on Philip's death was an uprising in Thebes and Athens. Alexander crushed the Theban resistance, sacked the city and sold the surviving inhabitants off as slaves.

Judging by what we can see from the map it appears to be only 4 factions

Knowing that 8 new factions sounds better, Im pretty sure it will only be 4. Plus, who else is there? The greeks were ruled by the Macedonians(atleast by TW standards) and the Barbarians have been lumped into one. Thus I dont see any other possibilities. Still, I think these factions will be fun. In rtw there was only like 6-7 I really played. In this game I will prolyl play all of em and have alot of fun.

Yes, they did have an extensive empire.

I think this simplification of factions will help the AI.

...I really hoped that the mod would cover also the western part of the Mediterranean area, with Rome and Carthage included and playable like separate factions ...I'm a bit disappointed

It's Alexander Total War. If you want to play Rome, play RTW. It's only a mini mod.

...I'm afraid that you missed the point ...in my opinion the lack of a good campaign (the "prologue" campaign seems a bit too elementary) covering the events related to the Early history of Rome is something like a fault of RTW "vanilla" ...however it is still a "Rome: Total War" expansion ...but lacking Rome ...in this way it is not possible an hypothetical invasion of Italy and of the western Mediterranean area by Alexander's army, as he planned actually before his premature death.

Wasn't he looking towards arabia and Carthage before thinking of attacking the italian peninsula, which was backwater anyway?

Archer, that's what I though as well, until this announcement. Looking at the map they showed, and reading their info carefully it indeed looks like only four factions. The 30 hours of gameplay part is a concern as well. Basically, CA seems to have been very focused on a small campaign.

The glacial paced trickle of info is disappointing...

Well, I'll be going with my standard procedure with controversial expansion packs such as this.

the early buyers will be my labrats to see how the xpack is and then later on decide if it's worth to boot or to pay money for this. I'll be reading the posts about it and i will either laugh very hard on the poor suckers or i'll might just join them getting the xpack, after a few days.

4 factions though...hmmm I'm still leaning towards the "laughing very hard" and not getting it.

no, actually I'm not interested in Alexander's battles. I mean, I am interested historically read about it, but not in RTW with purple versus green.

I also got tired all the greek factions with their phalanxes crawling along for hours on the battlemap, I'm tired of phalanx: total war and elephants:total war , I was more excited with the roman style legios and the BI style nomadic blitzkrieg warfare and now I do not want to go back to phalanxes again, but rather looking forward for medieval warfare.
