    Default EasyLoc 1.0.1 (17/12)

Loc files hold the texts that are appeared on screen in game. You can edit them using Pack File Manager by LtChambers or loc2tsv by taw. Here is how a loc file is shown in PFM:

Every entry has a Code Name (Tag column), the On Screen Text (Localised String column) and a Boolean (working with EasyLoc you do not have to worry about Boolean). Usually we change the On Screen Text on an existing Code Name or we add both new. Though it is fairly easy to edit a loc file, the thousands entries it contains, makes sometimes things hard to be managed, especially if you want to find something or to make multi-changes.

    Working with EasyLoc

First you have to open the game pack or mod pack that contains the loc file you want to edit, e.g. local_en_patch.pack . Then export it as a TSV (see at top of the image above), saving TSV file where you like, e.g. on Desktop. Then open EasyLoc, select menu File, Loc Folder and copy in there the TSV. Keep only one TSV file at a time! After making your changes, copy back TSV on your desktop, open the pack with PFM and import back TSV. Save and you are good to go!

If you have difficulties to make a loc pack, you'll find one in Loc folder. So after you finish editing open that pack, import your new TSV and.. use it (keep a copy for later use). Do not forget to delete text\ui.loc if you do not use it.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. Add a New Entry

If you want to add a new entry then type the Code Name and the On Screen Text. If the later text is long you can type it in the text editor, edit it and then copy in the On Screen Text input box. When you are ready select Add Entry button. Your new entry will be copied in Preview sheet. You can add another entry or edit an existing one. When you are done select Save Changes button. If you mark the checkbox "Open TSV after save changes" (beside the
Save Changes button) your TSV will open automatically with your default program. New and edited entries are always added at the end of the file. Also in menu, Last Changes you can see always the last changes you have done.

    2. Edit an Existing Entry

Use the search function to find the entry or the entries you like to change, using a key word or a phrase. This is very usefull if you want to change text that exist in more than one entries. For example the faction name exists in 2 entries, unit names in 3 and so on. To select the entry you want to edit, just select any of its cells in first sheet and it will be transferred in the input boxes below for editing. If the text is long it will be transferred automatically in text editor for editing. After you' ve edited it, select Set button. Your new entry will be copied in Preview sheet. You can edit another existing entry. When you are done select Save Changes button.

You cannot modify an entry in Preview sheet. You can either Remove it and start over, or save it, then search for it to edit. Though I have use it only with English language in ETW and NTW, it must work with any loc, for any game (ETW, NTW, STW) in any language. Please feed back if you use it in another language or in Shogun 2 at any language.

    Current version:

    v. 1.0.1

    * Added several improvements
    * Fixed an issue with deleting old entries which had been replaced by new.
    * Fixed an issue of adding sometimes blank entries.

    Installation:

To avoid UAC problems I left it as it is without setup launcher. So download attached file, unzip and place the EasyLoc folder anywhere you like. Execute program using the EasyLoc.exe.

    EasyLoc cannot handle a
TSV if it is opened the same time in another program (it happened a lot to me...)

Good work HusserlTW. I am surprised you do not work for CA yet.

Also you know how PFM by Lt. Chamberlin has been superseded by DBEditor 1.8? Would DBEditor 1.8 work?

Only the DB editing part of PFM was superseded by DBE. Now you use DBE 1.8 for DB editing and PFM for .pack file managing, instead of PFM for both

    Anyway, great tool and +rep

I use always PFM (never used to working with DBE). Moreover it can read all Empire and Napoleon tables.

Guess I just got used to using DBE. I think taw managed to get it to read all the tables, but not sure if that includes NTW.

    Hi HusserlTW,

A while back you told me that you can't add new names to names.loc. Is it still impossible even with your easyloc tool? If it was impossible, how come CA can add new names to the game whenever there is a DLC ? I personally don't think the namesloc or db names.table is hardcoded or otherwise.

You can always add new names but in one of the existing groups (e.g. English). You cannot create a new name group (e.g. Finish). You'll always use the existing name groups where you can change or add names. Of course CA can add whatever she likes since she is the creator of this software, though I do not think she has added any new names group in any DLC (no new factions have been added except Natives in Warpth which use an existing name group).

Anyway the random use of names is a biggest problem than that...

I was referring to Total War: Shogun 2....

Those Bastards.... Though they did add new names for the DLC's Ikko Ikki and ROTS? (Gempei War) dlc

If I use your's and TAW's S2c to add new names to DB names_table, and then add new names to names.loc in patch14.pack, do you think it will work then? (for shogun 2 I mean)
Tried to use the latest DBeditor but it wouldn't load any pack. It still had 2 ETW patches in it that just kept railroading me to the point I got pissed off.

    Hey guys :/

I try, try and try, but I can't get it work. I have the .lock pack (1 KB, that one which was in the loc folder from direct after downloading) and the text (tsv) localisation.loc in the loc folder. THen I open Loc via launcher and make my changes, from "faction_on_screen_prussia" - Preußen to "faction_on_screen_prussia" - Deutschland, I change only the right column. Then I click "set" and after that I click "Save changes", then I still have the same 2 Files in the loc folder (the one text [tsv] file "localisation.loc" and the .pack file "My_Loc" that was just there before and still has only 1 KB) What do I have to do now ?! I opened the file, where I get from the text (localisation.loc) file and click on the "localisation" to click then "Import Tsv" then I chose the text (tsv) file "localisation.loc" and all I get is a error... thats really depressing, I only want a little faction name change what did I do wrong?

The tool will make the change in localisation.loc.tsv which you have copied and is located in Loc folder. After you make the change, you have to open my_loc.pack (keep a copy for the future) with PFM, click on my_loc.pack\text\localisation.loc, select Import TSV and point to the localisation.loc.tsv in Loc folder. Delete ui.loc and save. Normally you should have no error.

I don't get the tsv (text file, it has about 6,4 MB) import in the "My_loc" file (1 KB), I always get that red error button

Well... the only thing I want to have, is to rename, "Preußen" (faction name) to "Deutsches Reich". If it works on your pc, maybe you could just send me the modded file, to put in data .. that yould be great

You do not have to do all this trouble for a small change like that, just make it straight on the loc pack while opened in PFM.

    I'm an idiot ...

I tried what you said, but alway only with one "local.." pack the patch OR the main file, so there were no changes, now its working, thanks anyway !

Please upload the latest EasyLoc as an attahcment, because it's lost in the OP and is basically a broken attachment.

It's what I was looking for and I need to use it.

Scratch that... I can confirm that the attachment in the OP is fixed. This tool makes a different a least it does for me.

This is great... how do you get the loc editor to open the loc pack? I copied it to the loc folder but when I open the program, nothing.
