Default One problem I have with the game

Hey, I love this game to the fullest, I think you guys did a tremendous job but one problem I have with this mod is the huge, ginormous difference in strength between roman units and > every other nation. Im not just ranting, cuz in my experience, I was facing a unit of principie guarding a gate and I had some decent, not crappy, like average proffesional soldiers with 24 def, 11 attack fighting them. Romans lost 7 men, all my men routed and retreated....I had 3 battalions of men.

I get that the roman soldiers were very well trained and all but realistically, their in game strength is hulk like. The MTW2 engine is a really balanced and fair system it seems in comparison as even if you have strong soldiers, they are still capable of dying.

It seems this is mainly with roman troops. A unit of hastati, their basic soldier rapes a lot of my men and in large numbers, are tough as heck to beat as they have some scary morale. Does anyone else feel the same way? or do you guys have different experiences?

sounds like you're playing on VH battle difficulty, of course, with hardcoded +7 attack +7 defense and +7 morale expect AI hastati to be fiercer than your naked fanatics

Yep, sounds like VH. I found this mod well balanced at medium or hard. Hastati, principes and triari all die from missile fire and (except triari) are vulnerable to heavy cavalry once their pila are gone. And believe me, they are still weak compared to Spartan bodyguards. I had my general defending the gates against 2/3 stack of Aitiolians just for fun, because he was the only unit garrisoned. I never thought of winning that battle, just inflicting casualties. In fact I lost, but my 40+ men bodyguard unit did some 400+ kills. Also, that boiling oil (if available) helps a lot, as it seems to hurt the enemy more than you.

I agree that it's always hard when your line infantry clashes with the Roman infantry and it's just a hand-to-hand combat , the Romans will frequently win then, but I consider this as being quite realistic.
Only yesterday I routed a Roman Army of 6 regiments with my Epirote army of 4 regiments, 2 of them Ekdromoi, 1 Archers and a General. You have to use your cavalry (or Archers) to get behind the Hastati/Legionaries, whatever, when they are in close combat with your main infantry and then weaken them. So I recommend to always have a decent number of ''other '' troops than your normal infantry of the line (missile + cavalry) when fighting the Tiber city guys.

And play on the most balanced M/M setting when you're having problems when trying to defeat the AI

Roman's are vulnerable to cav and missiles from the sides/rear.

They are easy to defeat with Hellenistic factions using hammer/anvil, but cause big problems to barbs

With both, in fact with all factions - get on the high ground. Lure them out by peppering them with javelins from your faster skirmishers, have a unit of slingers close by so that they could shoot the romans in the back. Once in the fight pin them from the front and hit them from the rear. Also IIRC don't use spearmen against them, use swordsmen. With Carthage use your chariots and elephants to disrupt their formation and hit them with powerful units. Carthage has very good cavalry, the Roman is rather weaker.

I remember playing as Gaul a while a go and I decided to immediately invade rome, I beat some easier armies making my way to rome but then started getting my ass handed to me by some ridiculously powerful units (this was on normal difficulty) I would completely and utterly surround there units only for my whole army to rout.

My only retort was to make hordes of skirmisher armies , which won with very little difficulty. Still in hand to hand my units might as well have all been town militia.

In my experience fighting rome, you have to cut of the head by killing the commander. Actually this is essential in fighting all powerhouses.
