Default An idea regarding seige battles

It would seem that no matter how many men are on the battlefield while sallying out to meet a beseiging army, the AI forms up, possibly moves to a better position and then waits. In fact, they'll wait until I push my entire 3000 man army through one gate, form up, and march right to them. Would it be possible to have the AI attack while you're most vulnerable... that is, while you're trying to get your army outside the city/fort walls? It would only make sense and would make the entire game that much harder if you're not guaranteed a free exit and formation. Not ALL enemies are that honorable... I'm not

The best time to attack is when the first third of the sallying army has made it through the gates. Crushing them and pinning the rest of the army inside should be fairly easy and makes being beseiged that much more of a pain.. as it should be.

Yea the Ai used to do that in 1.2

I think it is the way the Ai reacts while being attacked generally. If only the Ai would change its default when sallying.

Hardcoded though i believe? and i would rather have an AI that waits for my attack on a hill when defending than an AI that always attacks me whether i attack or not

Another point of being besiged is that when they attack and knock down your walls the entire army rushes to the breach. I've crushed full stack armies with only a general and 4 Hastati and a unit of velites, surely it's better to send one unit at a time to tire then overwhelm the defenders? As the seige Ai stands I've come away with some unbelieveable victories that simply shouldn't have happened.

I know of this "issue" but you will have noticed a very increased ability of defending and maneuvering...this I hope is correctly balanced for siege defends!

At the very least, the AI could bring foreward slingers and archers to harass enemy units trying to exit a stronghold... and if possible, bring javelin throwing units right up to the city walls to force my own javelin units to back off an allow their rams to reach the gates.

Ah in BI the foot missile defenders are bugged...managed as much as possible to fix this but cannot do CA's job without tools

Would be interesting if they put a tower or two (or ladders) up while you were sallying out. Would make it a bit more difficult.
