Default This news got me thinking and concerned.

    Video game breaks 'Avatar' record
    http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged...130949515.html

Imo this proves beyond doubt that the majority of people are not sophiticated nor an intellect.
If game like Modern Warfare 3 got a record sale while better designed games such as Shogun 2 or more similar shooter like ArmA 2 looked pale in comparison I can't stop thinking the consequence in a larger picture: in democracy.

If the majority of people are neither smart nor wise and largely gullible the whole nation will suffer from it through the democratic process called general election.

Now I'm not anti democracy, even the contrary but the fact that game like Modern warfare 3 topping the sales really bothers me. What the hell was in the people's mind? What were they thinking? Come on it's Modern Warfare 3?! Is that the best they had in their mind?

I know the game is probably not bad but to beat Avatar record is mind boggling . . . . .
The buyers were probably console gamers too and that too shed a revealing light . . . .

    The world needs good education . . . . . and a better taste . . . . fast!

On the other hand I hope it was the Pentagon which bought 50% of the sales record to attract recruits to the army service...(I'm not implying military men are stupid btw in fact I believe good military men must be brilliant people)

Call of duty itself is not a bad game but what pisses me off is that people have paid 180 dollars+ Mappacks since COD 4 in 2007 in what is essentially a large patched expansion of call of duty 4. I dont mind the games but i cant understand why people pay 60 dollars a year for barely any changes

A very elegant troll, my good sir, very elegant indeed. For now we will have people pouring in here to defend MW3, and others coming in to attack it. The fact is that it is a simple, fun game that doesn't require much effort to play, thus people play it to unwind. You can not use people's preferences in entertainment as a means of judging either their or the general populations level of intelligence or intellect. Thus your entire thread is invalid.

Of course, this post will be completely ignored by people in their rush to defend/bash MW3, not realising they are being wound up quite deliberately.

I'm not trolling, you always judgmental? Well your judgment is so wrong for this one.

I did say it may not be a bad game. And contrary to your belief there's an insight to be gained from almost everything.

PS: If I offended you in any way I apologize, if you're an MW3 gamer I didn't mean to offend you nor them, I just wish those people who bought MW3 would pay more attention to titles like ArmA 2 and Shogun 2 . . . . and I made this thread with a light humor in mind . . . .

I immediately spotted this as well. Judging an activity that people enjoy as being worthless is the mark of either very poor reasoning or a very direct troll.

Because the general populace is dumb - simple answer, needs no more explanation. In a couple of months everyone will realize its the same game and pick up the next shiny thing that comes along but after that they will go back to it due to nostalgia and the cycle will continue

Since when did people buy games to test their intelligence?

And since when did what games people bought be a measure of their intelligence?

I'd be more worried Avatar had the record than MW3. After all MW3 isn't anything but a time waster, while people actually claimed Avatar had a message. I still shudder from all the cults that sprung up around it.

I don't get the supposed connection the OP makes between 'democracy' and MW3, What's the connection? Are you saying that modern democracy has become like online play in MW3?

Thank God, Rolling thunder actually detected that trollish OP. Now we can all just calm down and not fall for it.

Avatar was a garbage movie so what difference does it make for a game to beat it?

Poor advertising is my guess. I wasn't even aware Napoleon was released until 8 months later, compare to MW3, it was plastered everywhere when it got released. Avatar is already popular via movie so that's given. Besides Shogun 2 isn't exactly for everyone who aren't interested in Samurai warfare. I think CA should have just skipped to Empire 2 or something new.

I will use the content of this thread to judge YOUR intellect. You think you're better than everyone else based on the video games you play? Seriously?

I actually had a good laugh from this thread, people are taking it too seriously I think.

MW3 is still pretty much Counter-Strike with good graphics and a lot of bells and whistles. I enjoy it, casually, I'm not really into the game like some of my friends are though.

I was going to make a comment about how mw3 may be a bad game but I don't think people who play it are stupid, then I saw this, please don't compare my favourite game ever to the newer CoDs.

Each of us has but one life and it is a question of whether we choose how to live it or others do.

Many people choosing to die with fond memories of CoD in mind ... it is their life, what is your problem with that ?

...quite a few people took offence and think I'm a troll...

It may not be a bad game but I just it it is underserving to get such a record sales when compared to other titles which did not like ArmA 2 and Shogun 2.

It is true that games may not be a judge of a person intellect but the record sales do tell us an insight I believe.
