Default Dual booting xp64.. in need of help

    hello

This is the problem, I have xp64 bit as OS, today I bought a logitech Quickcam, but guess what Xp64 is not supported by logitech. I have an old copy of xp pro, but I have no idea how you can dual install two OS and I don't want to lose my xp64. I only want xp pro so I can use my cam.

Any ideas, and please explain if for a n00b, thanks

Try finding an updated driver for the cam (Its a USB right? , this problem is a common one). Or try and find a x64 river for the cam. Looks at the cam makers website for driver updates.

I tried, Logitech isn't making a 64bit driver..., I have looked planetamd64 and other sources, there are only two options. A. Get another webcam (Only creative has two cams that has 64bit drivers) or install another Os.

    Is this without risk?

"My preference is choice "B" above. To manage dual booting with the bios boot order settings. Here's how it works for me:

Unplug the XP hard drive. (Leave the other HD connected and plugged in.)

Set the bios settings to boot first from the CD.

Put the install CD in the drive.

    Restart the computer.

The computer should start from the CD and should also recognize only the second hard drive.

The new OS is then installed to the second drive as if it were the only OS in the system.

Remove the install CD and restart the computer.

If the new OS runs, good.

Turn off the computer. Plug in the first hard drive.

Restart the computer, go into the bios setup. Set the hard drive boot order to reflect the OS you want to boot.

Save changes and exit the bios setup.

Reboot and enjoy one or the other.

I think I would go for the x64 cam from Creative, rather than install another OS. Installing dual OS can be problematic.

I agree, it takes up too much unnessessary space and its anothing thing you have to click on when your computer starts up, which is too much trouble for me.

    Well, It's to late.
I installed windows xp pro to another partitation. Everything went good, I could chose between the two OS. I ran xp pro, updated it, installed the things I needed (mostled igital camera en webcam), everything worked.
Then I wanted to play a game, so I restart my computer and chose xp64 and bam. it doesn't start. I get this fault message. Can't find ntoskrnl.exe in windows root.

So what happened I installed xp pro on nfts part, xp64 was another nfts part. Both on two harddisks, but in a strange way I think XP pro overrided some parts of XP64.

Anyway, I will need to do a totally reformat of both harddisks, cause xp pro worked, but Xp64 is much better if only the companies would make drivers for it!!
It's time to start copying +300 gig to dvds....

Does anyone know how I can get my internet favorits that were in xp64, how I can see them in internet explorer of win xp pro?

    Greetings

Thaegen, you take on an endevor like implementing dual OP systems (I didn't even know you could do that!) and you call yourself a noob?! Its hard enough to get Windows to behave, let alone two OS! Your a brave one alright. Honestly,I was gonna be blown away if it worked! In the future, maybe you should burn some backup disks before you gamble like that...
