    Default An easy modification - Good or bad idea?

    Knights came from nobility. Nobility often married into royalty, making them claimants to the throne.

    So, would it make sense to make all Knight units - both mounted and dismounted - general bodyguard units? You know, when you would hire knights, they would become family members instead of regular captains.
    This would also apply to Crusader Knights, Mercenary Frankish and German Knights.

    Good idea or not?
    I can easily mod it.

    no, i dont think its good, maybe for some knights, like knights of santiago but only for spain or something like that.

    can you tell me the link of your signature ? is that a test ? i want it to !

    I guess it would make you more attached to each unit you have.

    Thats something Im planning to do in my mod. All knights and elite units will be general units - main reason will be for RPG elements. So, yes I like your idea very much.

    It really makes the game much more... lifelike, at least to me.
    I'm playing as Sicily in the MagyarMod, and I really love it. All I need is to recruit a few knights, and I finally have governors for all of my settlements.
    Makes the game much more realistic, because in real life, every province had some sort of noble to rule it.

    However, those Mercenary Knights don't turn into Generals despite the fact that I added it to their attributes. When I try to view their unit description in the game, the game just crashes.
    Maybe it's just MagyarMod, I don't know, I haven't tried this with Vanilla, and I'm not going to either: I can't test mods for vanilla, because when I set the game to load files first, it won't start

    Don't worry though. Even though Knights (both Mounted and Dismounted) become General units, somehow they don't turn into Family members.
    But anyway, I was thinking of making them somewhat more special... stronger, more expensive AND more limited in numbers.

    If you do this, you have to limit the numbers of those units drastically, or make them much more expensive. But the main idea is good

    I know that they don't become family members, but they are still generals. It makes no difference for battles. But if you want to limit their numbers that would be ok.

    I think it would be realistic the way it is.
    Generals are generals. If you give them a princess, they become family members.
    However, I must find a way to stop adoptions though.

    The Westerners have a LOT of units that are General units, the Knights.
    But what about the Muslims and Russians?

    Unfortunately, I can't make Mercs Generals.
    I add the General thing to them, but it still doesn't make them generals.

    I would just make the elite cavs and perhaps some elite foot soldiers, the arabic faris were equivalent to knights I guess. I havet been playing vanilla for a long time and dont really remember the possible unit names, so from what I remember I think armenian cavalry, ghulam cavalry, faris, dismounted faris, russia: druzhina, boyar sons (stupid unit name if you ask me). Hope it helps, good luck with your mod.
