    Icon8 WTF seriously?!?!

    This is rage pure!!

I was playing as the Kalmar Union besieging Thorn held by the TO. It was a hard fight but I won. Or should have...

I killed 100% of the enemies (according to the bar and noone was left as I could see, except for a single red triangle near the central square. The countdown had started some time ago for me to take the square, and as i chopped down the last enemy and the countdown had 43 sec left, the message appeared that I ing lost the ing battle!!! What the hell?!?

What could I do more than press OK? Out on the game map, my army was outside with about 40% less of what he entered with, according to my casualties. But Thorn remaind under TO control with three badly banged up units.

Do you guys have any ideas why I lost? I killed every singel one, my general survived through the battle and the countdown for me to take the square was running.

What could the AI possibly have done to secure his "victory"?

I almost feel like exterminating the place when I take it next turn....

Glitch would be my best guess. When the enemy lost, the glitch caused the game to think of it as if You lost instead. According to what I can make out of your description, it seems you should have won double up...
You were definitely in control of the Plaza, I assume, and positive that the soldier you killed was the very last one left?

Were there anything else happening? Did you get the message declaring the battle as lost straight away when the last enemy died, or did it take a while?
Were there any other messages popping up?

Two possibilities I can think of:

    1. The battle time limit ran out before the city-capture countdown went to 0.

    2. You lost all infantry units and siege weapons. For example, if you open a gate by sending infantry over their walls using ladders, and then all your infantry units get routed, then you lose the battle automatically even if your cavalry has entered the city and the gate is secured. (If you're on the defending side and you kill all their infantry, it would give you an "objective complete" allowing you to end the battle)

HA, that must be it. It was a long battle and the battle time was almost at an end there for a while. I lost straight after the last enemy soldier died, and the battle time probably ran out like one second before the computer understood that I actually won.

This is why you should never play with a time limit on offense. If you think you'll forget to toggle it, just leave it off indefinitely. It's what I do.
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

Do you mean that I can toggle it before every single battle? That I can actually change that before clicking "start battle"? Never seen that, how do I do that? Thought you could only toggle it before starting the campaign where you choose fraction and difficulty.

As far as I know, you can only toggle "battle time limit" before starting a campaign.

I´ve had some bad experiences from campaigns where I played without time limit, so I always have it toggled on - I´m not going to get stuck with a 10-unit garrison successfully holding off four Mongol armies, only to not win because there´s no time limit again... I had no choice but to charge out, and of course lost the battle.
I prefer keeping track off the time, and using efficiency when fighting on the offensive.

    exactly my thoughts
+ someone posted some time ago a scenario he was involved on: he had time limit off and he was on the defensive (or on the offensive, I don't remember, it was a siege battle), but the thing is he had only cavalry left and the enemy had some leftovers infantry standing on the walls 'fighting to the death' (you all know this bug); well...I think you guessed, he had to quit the battle because there was nothing else to do.
And I think that if the enemy has only a few men remaining, lets say on the walls like in this guy's case, 'fighting to the death' the battle won't end and the 'Continue or End battle' window won't pop out so if you are on the defensive your only option is to quit, thus loosing the city; yep, it really blows

edit: this also happens in RTW

nici ochii când în lacrimi ţi-s.
    Adevăratele înfrângeri,
    sunt renunţările la vis.

Yes, you can toggle the timer on and off in your campaigns. Press escape, go to options, select game options, and turn on the battle timer. Sometimes I feel like it is cheating to do this because, well, I selected to have it off at the start of the campaign. It is justifiable, though, when you are defending and the enemy absolutely refuses to attack- even with the superior force and numbers.

Oh, and you can't do it during the battle. You have to do it before.

OK, thanks + rep! Then I just have to remember to turn the time limit on again, I usually play with time limit since I've had above mentioned experiences.
