The name of the new Tool album. It hit shelves (in the U.S. at least, not sure about Europe) today. Its a great album. Go buy it or download a song or two off iTunes.

The album is currently sitting at #1 on the Amazon music list. My guess is it will debut at number one in total album sales for this week.

Meh, I personally think Tool is overrated. Now, Three Days Grace... that is going to be an album.

I like the new Tool song though.

This might be the greatest ablum I have ever heard... and the art work with the viewing glasses, just ingenious. Tool not only set a new guideline for creating music, but also set a guideline cd art and viewing it.

I listened to this album a few hours ago blitzed on weed and playing hearts of iron in the middle of the night. That sounded like greatest piece of musical work I'd ever heard. Song 3 or 4 had this intense solo from Adam, i was tripping so bad from it i thought i was gonna pass out. I'm not one to exaggerate, listening through that album was one hell of an experience.

    Buy this album...

Have to agree.. its a great album.
Took a while to grow on me, but i'm really enjoying it now. (still feels like it should be a double album though)

Also, the quality of the leak was pretty bad, whoever ripped it didnt know what they were doing. The CD version is a lot better, and you get the amazing packaging, which is well worth it.

    buy this album....

Yup. The packaging and artwork is incredible. The mixing is very well done on this album too. I always felt like Lateralus was too oriented towards Adam's guitars rather than Danny's drums. With this album I get to hear a little bit more of the hard hitting drums with my surround sound and in my car. This album just sounds more well rounded as far as the mixing goes. Its very crisp, clean, and clear.

Apparently they produced it themselves, with Joe Barressi on hand as over-seer. Its a very "organic" mix, whereas Lateralus was quite cold and mechanical (which suited the songs IMO). I'm not sure which i prefer to be honest.. both styles have there own benefits and drawbacks.
One thing i have noticed is that sometimes Adam's guitar is a little bit too upfront on the album, like after the tabla break in "Right in two". Too loud, but it works.
Also, loving that talk box solo on "Jambi", and some of the effects and harmonies they've added to Maynard's vocals are very effective (like the "Damn my eyes" part in "Jambi")
I can hear Pink Floyd all over this album, and thats never a bad thing.

Regarding the less serious lyrical content. Its something that annoyed me as well, i think because i was hoping for Lateralus pt 2.
I guess Maynard just had enough of people expecting him to tell them the meaning of life.

Overall though, i'd say this is probably the best album i've heard in a long time.

Bah. Pearl Jam released my album of the week. Tool's can wait till there are some going cheap second hand. I find them pretentious and overhyped. But they're OK I guess....they're just not as good as everyone seems to think they are in my opinion.

I can't see it staying on top for a great length of time, since remember that soon the RHCP album is being released...and that's even more hyped than 10,000 days has been.

Thats the way it is for all rock bands. When the last NIN album came out it debuted at #1 and then fell off the radar. These rock bands that have been around for any longer than a decade already have an established fan base that doesn't grow a whole lot. Anybody who is actually going to buy the album does so in the first week. Everybody else steals their favorite 1-3 songs from the album and doesn't purchase it. Its a real shame, because good bands are being ignored because their music is too deep or not catchy or short enough to play well on the radio.

See, i view Pearl Jam as over-rated. Dont get me wrong though, they've done some good stuff, but they definitly dont deserve the almost legendary status they seem to have attained. (IMO)
What over band than tool would be arrogant enough to release an album with a pair of goggles attached to the case?! its pure genius.

As for RHCP topping the charts..... meh, charts matter not. RHCP have been re-recording the same damn songs for the last 10 years. its getting pretty stale now.

I think its the Apples and Oranges situation really...On one hand you have Classical inspired grunge (The new stuff almost rings of the Who infact I'd say!), and the other Progressive Heavy Metal. I actually intend to give it a try really...but I unfortunatly it hit a "good album period" for me and I had to prioritise!
I find Tool to be that little bit too pretencious for me (actually...thats rather hypocritical of me, given my love of the Smashing Pumpkins! ). I don't know- they're a little strange for me, kinda bordering on the whole melody metal scene. Then again I've only heard a few of their songs in the past. I'll give it a try at some point though

I'd agree with the RHCP. I'm still going to get the new album however, since I've only recently got into them. Despite playing the same kind of thing every album, I think they still retain that air of individuality- I really don't think anyone does quite what they do.

RHCP are very good at what they do, which is basically to make very catchy pop-funk-rock tunes that sell millions. I dont mind hearing them on the radio, same with Green day, but its not exactly inspiring in any way.

I have a lot of respect for Pearl Jam. They've stuck to their ideals and not compromised themselves commercially (much like Tool). Ten is one of my favourite albums, and some of the stuff after that was damn good (although some i just couldnt get into)
You know, i think you might actually enjoy a lot of the songs from 10000 days. Its quite an accessible album, almost A perfect Circle like. Some of it is pretty heavy, and of course the messed up rhythms are in there, but there are also some very melodic tracks.. Wings for Marie pt2 especially.

back to Pearl Jam though, i'm going to be seeing them at Reading festival this year, which will be an experiance. I'm reliably informed that they are one of the best live bands on the planet.

It will probably be the highlight of the festival for me actually. Pearl jam, Muse, Audioslave, Primal scream.... maybe placebo. they are the only bands i actually want to see.
I'm very disapointed in the Reading/Leeds lineup this year, Far too many indie-pop bands.
I fear that i will have to compensate by consuming an inordinate amount of alcohol.

actually, i just remembered.. Slayer are playing!!! Some old school thrash never goes amiss.

I'd agree! Too much New-Wave music...it's such a pain. Download on the other hand looks ace. Too bad I think I'm only going to be able to make the Saturday...Mettalica, Korn, Alice in Chains, and a few others (I forget the list). I'd like to have gone for the weekend (bar the Friday, which is a bit weak really...although Tool are playing. I think they'd be interesting live.) Sunday is pretty ace for GnR and the Prodigy.

EDIT: Bah! I'll just put the lineup on http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/lineup/index.asp

Wow, it doesnt take much for a topic to derail though thinking about it
