Default There's a crusade going on... but where?

I have 3 foreign crusading armies standing around in my (Spanish) France - 2 near Bordeaux on the coast, one south of Toulouse near the coast. I must have missed the call - I have no idea what the target is.

Is there any way of finding out later on?
(I may even be the target myself since my last king was excommunicated, but assume it may be the Sicilians in Tunis, since they are also excomd and that may explain possible pathfinding issues the North European armies have)

    Thanks in advance

If you were excommunicated at the time when the crusade was called, you can't enter it. If it was against you and you were reconsiled, then the crusade will be cancelled.

If, as you said, the target is Sicilian Tunis, the area around the castle should be perfectly visible

First and foremost it should be in your quests or missions, regardless of excommunication. It's the same with Jihads, it appears there as a targetless mission.

And as Grym said, the area of control of the targeted city should be perfectly visible.

I have a spy in Tunis anyway, so visibility is there anyway. Hm, need to check quests again, but quite sure there wasn't anything.

Could it be that the crusade was cancelled and the armies are just hanging out now, since they have become aimless? Wouldn't they lose the crusader flag on the campaign map then?

Yes they would loose the crusader flag in that case. Cant it be anywhere else?

Sometimes it doesn't show up in the missions folder. Crusades aren't showing up in my missions folder, playing as Turks in SS 6.4.

If you play a catholic faction it will. Turks cant join crusades, becuase their muslims

It doesn't show - I checked again. I checked the Pope's info page - it says Crusade is ongoing, but not where. I'll take Tunis in the next turn, then, if that is the target, it should be cancelled. I'll keep you updated, still welcoming suggestions though.

Even after I had taken Tunis the crusading armies keep their crusader status - this may mean that Tunis wasn't the target - or is it normal that crusading armies remain crusaders even after the target settlement is taken?

And I guess I checked everywhere, but there is no info on the ongoing crusade - only that a crusade is going on (when I click the call crusade button), but nothing else.

If a catholic faction (non-excommunicated) takes a crusade target, the crusade end. This means that Tunis wasn't the target.

In my experience, once the time has passed to join a Crusade/Jihad, the only way to know what the target settlement is is to look for that city on the map that's lit up as if you had a unit in it. Since you say that settlement already has a spy of yours in it, move him out and out of sight of the city, along with any other units that can see the city, and if you see the settlement still out of the "fog of war," (viewable) that's the Crusade's target.

Wow, this thread is rapidly updating...

What Aeratus said is definitely right. Crusader armies immediately lose their crusader status when a Crusade ends. The settlement must fall into the hands of a Catholic faction; the only other way the Crusade will end is if every single crusading army is disbanded or destroyed, in which case the Crusade ends in failure. On second thought, crusades also end by being canceled by the Pope when the target ends up falling into the hands of a faction that is to the Pope's liking. Such as, if you are a non-excommunicated, non-crusading Catholic faction and you take the target, the crusade is over by cancellation.

Well, I just got excom-d the turn before I took Tunis...

Also noticed, when I kill all generals in a crusading army, they lose crusader status... poor Polish heir, hehehe

    Ahh, that explains it then.

Yes, killing the crusading army's general definitely keeps him from bouncing right back the next turn with every mercenary he could hire. I have had so many instances lately where I killed or captured every single enemy soldier EXCEPT the general, nothing could be more frustrating! Though just a few days ago I did that and after the battle the guy just died anyway, I wonder what causes that. (I have seen "sole survivor" generals go on to recover before. I have even BEEN that sole survivor before!)

Yup, a crusading army needs a general. This is a great way to avoid them, since the army often deserts the turn after

I think if the enemy general has no movement points left and loses a battle, he can get captured (or die) even if he is routed from the battlefield without being killed on the battlefield.
