War movies, history movies and documeantaries. I touchy issue. When we see some of these films, after words we want to tear the historian of the featured film limb from limb. But realism or history aside, there are hundereds of war movies from all ages. Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, Napolean, Civil war, WWI, WWII, Vietnam and Iraq. Some actors of these movies include Clint Eastwood (), Russel Crowe (Gladiator), John Wayne (Civil war), Mel Gibson (Braveheart) and Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan) to name a few. What is your favourite war movie.

One of my favourites is A Bridge to Far with Sean Connery

That was a great movie. I really want to see Boys from Brazil but I haven't gotten around to it. It's another Nazi movie but this time a doctor wants to clone Hitler and he lives somewhere n Brazil.

I personally prefer the older warmovies. "The longest day", "Where eagles dare", "A bridge too far" and not to forget, one of the best Dutch films ever made; "Soldaat van Oranje" (if you're Dutch, you oughta know it).
Way better than those semi-actionmovies of nowadays. They're mostly just Bruce Willis films with a WWII/Vietnam shell surrounding it.

The book is way better than the film. But it's quite good.

Windtalkers? *Yuck* Like "saving private ryan" without the attempt to make realistic battle scenes.

Anyone else have a similar reaction?
Sure, had a gigantic discussion about it on these boards actually. For some reason most americans don't care about the flaws of the movie, no matter how much you explain and point out, they always argue around it and find some sort of interesting explanation. I really believe that some americans actually think "it must have been like that, everyone who says different has no clue".

Saving Private Ryan is still my favourite war movie, with an excellent storyline and actors. Second comes Warriors. Truly one of the few movies that made me emotional... it's about British troops in Bosnia (1992), witnessing the terrible wars and genocide.

    War movies that I enjoy:
    Patton
    To Hell and Back
    Lawrence of Arabia
    A Bridge Too Far
    Full Metal Jacket
    Saving Private Ryan

I can't say which is my favorite cause I don't really know.

There is one war film I do desire to see, Napoléon, by Abel Gance. It was filmed in 1927. Has anyone seen this movie? I have heard that it is pretty good.

    In no particular order:
Saving Private Ryan, really shows that war never can be "heroic" example is when the young soldier who has got his stomach ripped open is crying for his mommy..
Stalingrad, German version. Shows how depressing war can be and how it affects those soldiers who survives.
All quiet on the Western front, all versions. Makes you understand that all soldiers are equals as in human beings and not "robots"
    The thin red line
Braveheart, it shows how brutal war is and always will be.
Kingdom of Heaven as it displays how foolish rulers can be when they are prepared to sacrifice the life of thousands of soldiers over petty issues instead of using diplomacy etc..
