Default Adding factions to buildings that are not from their culture

    Hi,

I'm trying to let another faction use some of the buildings that are already in MTW2 use buildings such as the race track or art studio, but they are not of the required culture and I'm getting a generic picture in game and a description that says something like, not intended for this culture do not translate.

I know this is a bit of a noob question, but how do I fix that? lol

You need to give those buildings descriptions and stuff for that culture type in the export_buildings.txt in the data\text folder.
As for generic pics it's because you have to give pictures for that faction type in the UI folder relevant faction.

export_buildings is in an odd format... a .bin format, I tried opening it with notepad and it's very odd...

Is there a converter for it?

There is a converter and you can find it here...once you convert it to text and make the changes you want just overwrite the original text file and delete the strings.bin file so the game can write a new one and you are ready to enjoy your changes...i also recommend deleting the map.rwm file after making changes...good luck...hope this helps...

AFAIK in order for the game to recognize changes to the text files you have to delete the .bin file...this is the file the game actually reads from...so after deleting it the game will create a new on from the text file...the same with the map.rwm for changes to map features such as regions, buildings, ect....i don't know how you could have gotten all the .bin files into .txt files just from unpacking, or from a fresh install....the only has the .bin files when unpacked....thats the reason we needed a converter...only time i ever had them already converted was in mod folders...
