    Hmm... The bān thing makes it somewhat more complicated. What is the Indian name for such beasts (or their drivers)?

    It appears there are three most common words for elephants:
    1. Elephant in western and southern European languages;
    2. Pill/fill/whatever in heavily Persianized languages;
    3. Zilonis/Slon in Latvian and Slavic languages, respectively. Derived from "Zils/Ziljonny" respectivelly, which both mean blue.
