Default Don't even worry about Medieval II

There will no doubt be a lot of stuff about it that people will find frustrating and/or unrealistic. It will also have steeper system requirements than RTW, and will probably have a $50 price tag, whereas Chivalry: Total War is free and runs the same as RTW. I think people will be more than happy to see this mod finished to completion through the late era so they have something to play as an alternative. People won't stop playing RTW and its mods just because MTWII is out, and I think Chivalry will be very successful even if it is taking place in the same time period.

Medieval II will eviserate those mods which have not released any playable content. Three to four months before a possible date for a release mods are still being launched. Even with the early problems anyone truly interested will not give the price tag a second thought. This mod will likely have some solid campaign action, so will be less of a danger. The good mods will not disappear, but the features M2TW will provide will make a transfer of even this mod to it, likely.

Yes, I'm starting to fear that once M2TW gets released its going to absolutely murder all the realistic things we've been working on for over a year.

The way I see it, they probably will (well at least the majority of them). However, I counter this by thinking up that, well, the estimated release date has been said in several interviews to be December. Some people say September like the other games, but I find this very unlikely seeing as we haven't even seen a shot of the campaign. Also, RTW's original release date was, correct me if I'm wrong, supposed to be around June, which then got pushed back to August, which then got finally pushed back to September.

By all that amount of time I really think Chivalry will be released by then, so you can rest easy there.

Well, hopefully, but I have yet to hear official confirmation of these special "transfer features".

Actually, RTWs release date was always around september 2004, it only got pushed back 1 week. I trust MTW2 to also be out in September/october.
And people will actually stop playing RTW when MTW2 comes out, well all but the dedicated few. The mods that arent finished by the time MTW2 comes out might as well stop once it comes out.
@Venom, MTW2 will have the same requirements as RTW( or just above), and most new games cost 50 bucks. People WILL stop playing RTW mods because they wil all want to play MTW2. No offence, but i cant see Chiv being played once MTW2 is out.

Well I can actually see it played, although not very much.
Anyways, thanks for the encouragement Venom. I'm not sure if I'll stay on the project after MTW2's release, we'll have to see what happens.

Well, as a player, I liked and I was enthusiastic about Chiv mostly. After MTW is out I'll start another project and won't play anything else then MTW, to test their new engine. I already lost most of my interest and hopes with this mod since it hasn't got released yet... I liked the beta though... I remember spending some time modding to make the campaign playable... then I given up and deleted Chiv, installed MTW 1 instead.

Unique cities, castles, better ai, better graphics and some things I cannot think of, are those transfer features. M2TW is not likely before October. I think we will be playing a version of this mod well before then. This mod has units already looking almost better than those of the new game, polygon count and unit variation excepted. When M2TW comes out this team could try and make it better, perhaps restore the years. Some mods for MTW like XL are still being worked on, so the M2TW release will only be terminal for those mods without soldid content. .27 was released a long time ago and a campaign demo will be out soon so this mod will do fine. Nonetheless an eye needs to be kept on the M2TW release date.

This mod is astounding so keep working hard on it.

Hmm, well I seem to remember that at the start of 2004 they were saying around June/July, or at least August.

I think M2TW will have higher graphics specifications, this isn't like BI (though even that raised them a bit). Also, I think Chiv may continue to be played afterwards, maybe not by a large number of people, but remember that alot of Total War community sites (such as this one) have become popular after RTW, therefore we can't really compare it to MTW mods. We certainly hope to remain a presence in our current forums (here and SCC), which will hopefully support small communities.

Anyway thanks for the support, the team does appreciate it, it's really the only reason why a team does work on a mod project.

Hey chiv i was thinking that if you'll continue modding also MTWII and if me and other crusader members will continue, we could make a mod toghether trying to make it awesome, even if chiv is already awesome

Well I'm not quite sure what I'll do myself. I think the team will most certainly not work together on a new mod, we probably need a break. It is interesting though that many of us are now very educated with the medieval world and perhaps are more prepared to work on one than other realism mods. I'm assuming you guys are feeling the same, so perhaps we will team together at some point.

yup i think we are some of the most prepared modders about middle ages

To team toghether would be great, anyway there is still a lot of time before MTWII will be out, so it's better to think about our mods

    cheers,

I will certainly play chivalry even after an MTW 2 release. I still play MTW1 just because of the feeling a 2d campaign map offers and for the nice battlefields...they were big those times...

I really, really hope M2TW doesn't screw up on that one, and I'm serious, it will make the battles so much more enjoyable.

I think modders must not worry about MTW2. Of course wimps plays only latest official releases, but for many true persons mods is much more interesting than vanilla. Compare van.RTW/BI with the best mods (even unfinished by known): Europa Barbarorum, Paeninsula Italica, Hegemonia CS, Byzanteum, Dark Ages, Extended Greek etc. etc... The map, unit lists, skins, artwork and all elements of vanilla game are comparatively meagre and uninspiring a lot. All mods has its own unique content and feeling. Its because true devotion, fantasy and creativity lives in underground, not in big commercial firms.

The vanilla is good as engine of a game, its only a canvas for a true artist. Hope the MTW2 mods will be great too.

    You are quite right.

I personaly will be enjoying MTW2 though.

Theres no point flaming eachother or arguing about it.

Those who can upgrade will, and those who cant wont....

    Much like CS and CS:S

EDIT: i actualy forgot to say this...

People will play wichever is better.

Yes MTW2 has a ton more funding and it actualy has a new engine blah blah blah....

    But put it this way....

We as Players only bennefit if there is improvement from one game to the next, if CA can better Chivarly then we as game players should rejoice...

It would be like having only one gfx card... without ATI, Nvidia cards wouldnt be a half as good as they are today.

Competition is one of the most healthy things a product can have.

I actually hope that MTW2 will be better than Chivalry. Simply because I'd like to play it and enjoy it
Then again I'm pretty confident that it's gonna be nice, I actually enjoyed vanilla R:TW for some time - otherwise I wouldn't have bought the game. Still there's always room for improvement and that's where we modders come in

Well, I have no problems when MTWII comes out 6 months from now. Since I just upgraded my PC and I am planning to buy a Radeon X1800 or a 2GB memory if I cant run MTWII on medium settings. Also, as long as they are sticking to their "Total War" title, unrealism wont be a problem to me. Anyway, when MTWII comes out--RTW and its mods will just be an alternative whenever I feel bored playing MTWII.
